2011 5.0L Oil Leak

Good afternoon guys and gals, it's been a while.

I have a 2011 5.0L that is leaking engine oil. I did a search but really didn't find any answers. I found a thread that really sounded like the OP might have been experiencing the same thing but no answers and of course the OP never came back after he posted he was taking it to the dealer.

I don't have any drips on the ground yet but it is leaking on my aftermarket skid plate. I have residue on the most forward three oil pan bolts and the very bottom of the transmission bellhousing. It looks like it's coming from the passenger side but it is a little hard to tell exactly where it's coming from. I checked those three bolts and it seemed like they were slightly loose compared to the rest of the oil pan bolts but I mean an extremely small difference so I really doubt that is my issue.

Does anyone have any ideas? Really looking for someone with an idea in terms of something that they have seen before and / or something common on the 5.0Ls. Thanks in advance guys and gals.

There have been a few pan gasket issues posted around here. You can clean it up, throw some dye in and probably find it more easily when it leaks more.

Any recommendation on the dye? I have never had to purchase it before.

Does it degrade the oil? Do you have to change the oil after testing?

Neither have I. But they sell it everywhere, and it's supposed to be non-harmful. Seems like there's a lot of kits with dye and the light you need to see the dye.

I realized I misspoke when I posted this. It's not the most forward bolts but actually the most rear bolts. I pulled my RCI skidplate off and got a better look at it. It looks like the oil pan is leaking from what I can see.

I'm praying it's that or something even more simple and not the rear main seal. Has anyone seen rear main seals being an issue on the 5.0s? I don't think I have ever seen one posted myself.

Oil Pan Gasket - ~$600
Rear Main Seal - ~$1300

I was worried over the same thing. It was the pan gasket for me. If I had a lift, I would have done it myself. As it was, I paid a mechanic $500. He said it was trickier than he expected.

How many miles did you have on your truck when it happened?

It could be worse. It could have been the rear main seal.

Just over 100k, which was, of course, when my CPO warranty ran out.

So with roughly 90,000 miles on my truck it was in fact the oil pan gasket leaking. It cost me $550 plus tax to get it repaired. Originally they wanted $596 but I was able to get them down on the price.

Of course also found that my degas bottle / coolant overflow tank is leaking as well. I have already replaced the infamous T-Connector so here is the next thing. Not sure which way I'm going to go to repair this. The dealer wanted $553 to replace the tank and the hose on the bottom.
