2011-2014 f150 ecoboost reviews
This thread is for honest review purposes only!!!!!
I want to know before purchasing ecoboost, if all the problems I'm hearing about engine and rust are common. Might there be other problems I am not aware of? Is this truck faulty and full of complications? How satisfied are you really about your ecoboost and do you honestly regret the investment towards the eco?
On a side note Am I better off keeping my 05 4.6 v8 4x4 xlt screw f150 70k original miles presently. Or is the ecoboost a better overall truck? I would like to drive a brand new truck but not sure about these ecoboost trucks as of yet?

Search, read, and sort through the truths to make an opinion yourself. Problem with this type of question is, everyone is biased...one way or another. You're only going to hear, I love it and I hate it.

I will take a stab at this. First, I have driven lots of trucks: Full size: 2013 F150 FX4 (current), 2010 Dodge Ram 1500, 2007 Nissan TItan, 2003 Dodge Ram 1500, 2002 F150. Compact: 2000 Toyota Tacoma, 1996 Chevy S10, 1993 Ford Ranger.
That being said, the current F150 is probably the best overall that I have driven. We took a trip to Myrtle Beach (8 hour drive) and to Ocean City, MD (2.5 hour drive) this year and the comfort in the seats has been the best. Interior kicks all of their butts, from the leather to the electronics (navigation is a bit off, but that is what Android phones and Google are for). As for smoothness on road, I would have to say the 2010 Ram was the best, most likely due to the rear coil spring set up as opposed to the leaf springs. You lose a bit of payload with that set up though. As far as the engine goes, I have only had it for a little more thann 10K miles, but have had 0 problems with it. I purchased mine at a dealer that offers lifetime engine warranty for a reason, hopefully will never have to use it. Power of the EB much better than the Hemi, quicker take off and gets up to speed faster. That was not too much of an issue, it is a ~6000# truck.. That is my .02....

you will get both praise and hate.
The Ecoboost for the most part is pretty damned solid. the earlier the car, the more potential problems. the 11s seem to be the worst (also the first year), so I would avoid the 11s. the 12s had some slight issues, but the 13s and 14s are either good to go or too new to know for 100%. If new, you should be just fine. if getting used I HIGHLY suggest you get one that is CPO, and get the extended program just to cover you 100%
The potential problems are condensation in the intercooler (not really seen in 13+ and infrequent in 12s), fuel getting into the engine oil (seems to be a bit even in 11s and 12s, but still not extremely common) and both are fixed by TSBs from ford. You can sometimes get stumbling at WOT in the 11s and a few 12s due to having a spark plug gap too large (half way through 12 and on ford regapped the plugs). Not exclusive to ecoboosts is the 6.5 foot bed and longer can get driveline shake under load when towing or hauling due to the two piece driveshaft, but does not always happen. this is non existent on the 5.5' box.
Regarding rust.... I cant attest to that, so maybe someone else can chime in on that. mine is a 12 with no rust anywhere, but i'm in the south.
just note that these are all the major issues that I have seen repeated, but it does not mean they are frequent, just what can possibly happen. remember this is the most sold vehicle in the US (world?) so with more sales means more numerical problems, but not necessarily percentage. I love my eco, love the power, I had the fuel getting into oil and the TSB fixed it, free. my ONLY complaint about the truck is the really bland exhaust sound.

That said your truck has a solid engine that will last a long time. So is it worth 15k-20k plus your truck? Up to you.... Can't go wrong either way!

I won't get into a War and Peace sized write up...here's what I'll say...
Had I read all the negative posts on here about the ecoboost before I bought it, I probably would have gotten the 6.2. (maybe the 5.0)
That said, I have about 22k miles on my 2013, with eco and it runs great.
I've had the truck in for shocks (rear leaking) and a seat track...thats it.
Good Luck

I swear by the EB. Now don't get excited about the fuel mileage. It's all in how you drive it, like with any engine. Incredible pulling power. I had a 6.2L in a F250, and it wouldn't out pull an Ecoboost. I had an 11 model that developed a minor oil leak at 13k miles, and had the intercooler issues. My 13 had about 16k trouble free miles when I went to the superduty. Now I'm back in a 14 EB. Had a Silverado in between, and will never do that again. My dad has had 3 of the EBs as well, and has had 0 issues. Long story short, the EB is the future of Ford engines for a reason. You won't be disappointed.

I recently found a interview of a mechanic on YouTube stating the carbon issues on all ecoboost basically saying in time the turbos get so hot and carbonated they actually faulter, shutdown over a lengthy time... I guess the intake and valves need a induction service to be cleaned and ford does not offer this in maintenance!
