2011/12 5.0L Oil Spec Change
Hey guys,
I've noticed that the 2011 5.0 is specced for Ford's WSS-M2C930-A oil spec. This spec is being replaced by WSS-M2C945-A in the 2012 F150 owner's manual.
Now, I can't find anything that clearly states that the 2011 5.0 can run this new spec without technically voiding the drivetrain warranty (the 4th printing of the owner's manual states oil must meet 930-A spec).
Anyone have any documentation that Ford has back-specced the 2011 5.0 to run the WSS-M2C930-A? Talking to my local dealer, and they didn't even know the spec had changed, and the potential repercussions of it (ex. voided engine warranty).
Thoughts?

The WSS-M2C-930-A spec is for the API SM/GF-4 5W20 motor oil.
WSS-M2C945-A is the new API SN/GF-5 5W20 motor oil specs. All Ford did was change a couple of numbers to reflect the API SM-to-SN transition. I really don't think you will have any warranty issues, but use SN just to be sure.

That's pretty much exactly what took the service manager at my local dealer two weeks to find out.
I wasn't to sure. I actually have found some oil (Amsoil XL) that is spec'd for the WSS-M2C930-A spec, so I'll use that for my first oil change, and then I can start using 945-A spec.
The one weird thing, is there is nothing from Ford about this change....

With the exception of some diesel engine specific oils all API certifed oil for gasoline engines are backward compatable which means you can use the newer rated oil in older apps but ot necesarily the older oil in the new apps however ford states you can use any oil that is API certified for gasoline engines as long as it the proper viscosity
