2010 or wait for 2011's?
Okay guys, looking for some advice... FoMoCo is giving great deals on the 2010's right now. I'm torn on whether I should pull the trigger on a 2010 XLT/FX4 SCab as soon as I sell my car or if I should wait for the 2011's. Both the new 5.0L v8 and the 3.5L EcoBoost v6 sound really interesting, plus increased fuel mileage never hurts. What are the pro's/con's? What would you guys do... snag a great deal now, wait ~3 months for a 5.0L or ~6 months for the EcoBoost?
I don't do a ton of hauling, but need the 4x4 and bed.

It's going to be at least a year before you can get a similar good deal on a 2011 as you can on a 2010 right now, if at all. The 3.5 Ecoboost will likely increase the cost of a truck a couple thousand bucks, and if it takes premium fuel then that's going to negate some of the increased MPG. Ultimately you have to decide what's best for you, but since you asked what other people would do, I'd buy a 2010. The discounts right now are awesome, and most importantly, I'd rather let other people work out the kinks of those motors. Plus, the 2010 I bought was my dream truck with everything I wanted. It's been a little over four months since I got it, and it still makes me so happy that I continually come up with excuses just to drive it more often.

Here is my two cents...
Wait for 2011 if:
1. Fuel Economy is #1. No doubt Eco Boost will get better fuel economy.
2. You don’t mind paying more. Current ’10 MY rebates are $4,500-5,500. The ’11 MY will not likely have rebates for some time. Also the Eco Boost engine will be a premium adder.
Buy the 2010 now if:
1. You want to keep the cost at the lowest. See rebates above.
2. If you don’t want the EB or 6.2L engine. If you get the 4.6L or 5.4L V8 you likely won’t need the ’11.
3. If the you do care about fuel costs and the 4.6L 4x4 MPG of 20MHG HWY is sufficient.
Other tidbits:
- Exterior and Interior are rumored to be nearly identical. So not much different between MYs.
- Some people don’t want to buy the first or second model year of a new engine architecture or configuration.
After considering the above, I ordered my 2010 F150 4X4, XLT, 4.6L, SCREW this past weekend. Will arrive in October so I hope my assumptions about the MY’11 are correct. :-)
For me it was an easy choice. Unless going for the 6.2L next year, towing figures are down for the 5L vs the 5.4L.
The 5.4L is as small a motor as I'd want for my use. There are some really good deals on the '10 models. Got mine $8K below MSRP, and got what I wanted for my trade-in (of course after negotiation).
I zero interest in a 3.5L being overworked to try and do the same job. Reminds me of '73 during the fuel shortage, and the undersized/overworked motors that were introduced.
I'd rather have an adequate sized motor, never really working too hard, that will last a long time. It may not get quite as good mileage, but I bet the new engine options are more expensive, and the motors will have issues long term. JMHO.

Good advice, I think im going MY 2010.
and thanks for posing the question to begin with
I would wait, to get the 2011, but mid next year if possible, just for the 3.5 EB or 5.0, plus the new select shift and all are a good thing, but thats me. Plus you will work all the issues out for me in 2015.

"There is iron in this mans words". I too want nothing to do with a smaller cube motor spinning harder and faster in a truck. I saw the 3.5 Ecobust in the Taurus rated at 16/25 city/highway with something like 265 hp. Crap, my 06 GTO gets that with a 6.2 liter producing 400 hp and a huge grin on my face.

yeah, whats your GTO weight, whats the taurus weight. The taurus is AWD as well giving it extra parts to turn. One can bet the Taurus weights a good bit more than the GTO, and its not 265 hp its 365 hp and 350ft/lbs tq also 17/25mpg.......... why compare a sedan with a muscle car????? just seems like a moot point.
