2010 Towing info
Hey guys, i`m new to the sight, I just purchased a 2010 supercrew 4x4 with 3:73 gears and the 5.4 motor. Can some of you give me some real world towing opinions. How much weight you are towing and how the truck does. From what i can tell the truck is rated to tow 11,100#s but i have a hard time believing it would do it well. Thanks in advance

Do you have the Max Tow package? I have pretty much the same setup and I tow a 6000 lb travel trailer. I have Max Tow and it tows just fine. The limiting factor will be your payload/rear axle gross. My payload/rear axle limit allows me about 1000 lbs with the family loaded up and ready to go. So whatever trailer you have, make sure its hitch weight stays under 1,000 lbs. (At least in my case)

Retired and loving it!
As stated, if you have the Max Tow package, your truck is indeed rated to tow 11,100 pounds. Would I ever do that? Nope....
However, we DO tow a TT with a dry weight of 7,500 and it's probably close to 8,500 to 8,800 ready to hit the road. The tongue weight is 960. We've towed that weight up and down 8% grades and have totaled about 20K miles doing so.
A few words of advice from experience....
If you tow anywhere near this weight, get a good equalizer hitch. Don't get one rated for more than you need....don't go overboard in this arena.
Get a good anti sway kit of some kind. Reese makes a good one.
Think about bagging the rear axle.
Expect 8 to 10 mpg.
Your torque peak is at 3,500 rpm.....most steep hills on the highway can be taken at that rpm at exactly 60 mph....just hold it at that rpm. Steeper hills can be taken at 3,500 rpm at 45 mph.....anything over that rpm is kinda painful to listen to for the 5.4.
You can tell if you have the max tow (usually) if you have the "dumbo" big towing mirrors.

2010 XLT 4X4 5.4 standard tow pkg.
I tow a enclosed, all aluminum 3 place snowmobile trailer. 1700 lbs. empty. 3 sleds, extra gear at 600 lbs. each = 1800 lbs. It's only 3500 lbs., but you wouldnt even know its back there...........11,000 lbs. with a half ton??? I'm sure some do, but I would not feel comfortable with more then 8,000. Just my opinion.

Look at the badge on your door it give you a max gvwr and axle weight capabilities. I don't know much about the 5.4 but 11100 sounds a little to high. I know in the nbs truks only the 6.2 and Eco can tow that much so I would double check te max tow ratting.

6.2 and Eco can do 11,300 if properly equipped. I'm at 11,100. So that sounds right.

the best i can say man, read your book and look up on your truck that way. it may take a few mins, but i'd rather see it to believe it.
i don't have tow mirrors, or the factory brake ballencer, but i do have a tow hitch... and haven't had to tow anything yet.
but when i ddid buy the truck, they tried to offer me a ranger, i showed them a picture of my 1967 chev impala and told them, this is what i need the truck for. i was informed i could handle 8000-11000. they wern't sure about the 11000, but the finance manager said that if that truck wouldn't handle 8000... i could chop off his jewels. lol

5.4 max rated 11100 when properly equipped with max tow package. That's what a simple google search will find you. Now it may be lower so what you need to do is read you damn owners manual. That's why it came with the truck.

I did read it you did not sound very sure when you stated "for what I can tell". Your truck will tow 11100 but your foot will be using a lot of fuel. I would say 8000 to nine is the conferrable max for a beginner. 11100 is a lot and takes a lot of experience to handle and know what to do when things go bad. if you are patient you will be fine towing what you want just stay with in the max weights of the truck. The best advice is good trailer brakes and take your time. I never worry about the power to tow its the power to stop. I have towed 12k with my truck and it took some work but over all I felt fine. My little dump is 8000 full and is easy to tow. Sway and load bars will help out a lot.
