It's the second one. But, you can forget it. Without the compas/mirror module wired in and maby some programming it won't work. I have a
2010 STX SC and tried it.

My temp isn't displayed in a mirror. Its in the info center(where the radio info is displayed) just push the climate control and the defrost buttons at the same time. Let go and the push defrost. The ext temp will display. At 88 degrees, because there is no sensor connected

So I got a temperature sensor for my truck today. I got it out of a totaled 2010 f150 we had at my body shop, so thankfully I spent no $$$ on it. Plugged it in and...nothing as expected. I even did a battery pull.

But I still get this in my display, when I push the climate control power button and the defrost at the same time, then push the defrost button alone.

Im still curious about this. I wonder if it needs to be programmed at the dealership.

I've heard things that it may have something to do with the dual climate control. Not sure on this tho. Might make sense, as the dual temps lightup as well

Easy enough to answer. When you press those buttons it is doing a LED test to make sure all the LEDs are working. Next answer is you will have to bring it to a dealer to have them turn on the option. Mine went out on me once and the dealer had to do a reset on the PCM I think to get it to come back on. Hope this helps

Good news!!! I was able to finally get this to work!

I'm in the middle of a mirror swap for my truck(standard power mirrors to power, heated, with blinkers) and I figured id need the climte control with the mirror defrost button. I checked with ford, and it was $300!!! So I went on ebay and found one for $40, more my price.

It came in before the mirrors. So I figured id put it in today on my lunch break.

I already put in the sensor long ago, I got one out of a totaled '09 at my work(I work in a body shop) and couldn't get it to work. The post above this one says to bring it to the dealer, which was my next resort until this happy accident.

I swapped this one out

For this one(this is it installed)

All I did was, pull out this trim by hand, once you get going it will pop right off

Then under the rubber pad up by the display there are 2 7mm screws

On either side of the storage hole there are 4 7mm screws, 2 on each side.

All you need to do now is, pull the entire unit straight out. Unplug a few wiring harness'. And you are here.

Where you will need to remove 4 torx screws. T20 if my memory is right
Remove them, swap out unit and reverse procedure, to re-install.

And then, boom

It regulated to about 41 degrees(actual temp) once I started driving.

Hope this helps everyone

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look for a new climate control head unit that has the defrost button for mine. I have upgraded my mirrors but am not able to use the heat function yet.
