The problem is salt that the gov uses not the snow. And if you live in a place like toronto the car washes aren't going to put a dent into it. The underspary is nowhere thorough and powerful enough to remove the crusted on salt.
You need to take a 3000psi pressure washer EVERYDAY to get rid of the salt which is simply unrealistic.

The best thing to do it rust proof from the start because all trucks rust like crazy.

Thx for the suggestions, I'll check out the dealership first and see if there is anything they'll do about it. If no, I found a product called rustseal that I'm going to try. I've gone over the rest of the truck and aside from the usual surface rust on the undercarriage it seems OK. I'll just focus on the pinch welds under the rocker panels and see how the rustseal product works.

Maintenance wise I'm very diligent washing and cleaning the truck. It goes to the wand car wash once a week every week including spray underneath, gets its 2-3 coats of wax a year, spotless interior, etc. So I'm comfortable saying this is not a maintenance issue. Overall the quality of the truck is just not where it should be given its price point. Not sure there is anything better on the market where a pickup is concerned, I think you're just stuck with it if you need a truck

You need to remove the rust first to the bare metal before you apply the product.

And its the same problem with all trucks. Don't forget the expensive f150's are all base 22k xl's underneath. What ford should really do is offer a rust protection package for all trucks going north, instead they apply some crappy primer and send the trucks of to rust in 3 years time.

Also the gov. is as much to blame because instead of dumping tons of salt on the roads they should be using grit like every other first world nation in Europe.
