2010 Ongoing IWE Problems
#31
HI, I'm new to this forum
I drive 2010 Ford f150 4x4 5.4L
I have put in Rancho leveling struts and shocks and after doing that I noticed ratcheting sound in front wheels . Trying to do my own work on my Ford f150. I did some research found out that it may be IWE problems. When putting in struts I didn't do anything with CV joints meaning unbolting center bolt on wheel hub. I only unbolted the upper ball joint and the sway bar linkage to lower to get struts and shocks in and out. I've done vacuum test on all points of system and encluding at the wheel hub actuator , and found to hold vacuum. I also checked the solenoid switch and vacuum on 2wd and no vacuum on 4wd. I'm stumped can anyone help me?
IF I have to do a wheel hub actuator replacement I need help with the CV joints. The CV joints on a 2010 f150 is not a bolt in kind, it's like a driveline yolk. I did some research and found nothing. Please help.
Oh, one more thing does anyone know what is the vacuum lbs. that the IWE system should have?

the three way check valve
I have a 2010 5.4 SCREW. There is a check valve with a T right under the IWE solenoid on the driver side firewall (it's blue and white/clear), you can pull it out easily. I was able to suck air both ways through it. Replaced it 3 months ago and haven't heard the noise again. The part was $13, my dealer invoice says part#AL3Z19A563A. This appears to have been an issue on the 04-08 trucks as well.
Hi Mainah22
I have the same year truck and check valve. I'm curious how you checked it, bc I was able to blow throught both ends til I tried to cover the side opening that go's to the back up tank?

If you damaged your IWE's there's still a good chance that they'll hold vacuum. You don't damage the bladder when you do this, you damage the plastic parts that hold the ring that slides over the axle end and the wheel hub. If the system works correctly, it shouldn't take much for the axle to engage the hub once vacuum is removed, it should happen pretty much right away. The best tool for testing all this is a hand held vacuum pump that has a gauge. These usually are reversible so they can pump pressure too.

I wonder if they played around with different locations over the years trying to find the best spot where it would stay dry?
