2010 Lariat Screw 100K miles report
I am now at 109K miles and thought I would post my experience. The truck was two years old last month. I usually put about 60 K annually, but I was out of the country for about 6 weeks last year. Generally I have thoroughly enjoyed my first Ford. The ride is great, the interior is great, the sound system, A/C, and NAV are the best I have ever had.
My last few trucks in reverse order and how many miles I put on them: 2008 Dodge Laramie 2500 diesel Auto 90K, 2008 Chevy 2500 LT Duramax/Alison 80K, 2003 Dodge 2500 Laramie 2WD 6 speed 100K, 2004 Dodge Laramie 2500 6 speed, 200K, 2000 Dodge ST 2500 5 speed chipped 203K. All were 4 WD with the exception of the 2003. All were bought new with the exception of the 2003 (80K miles when bought) and the 2008 Dodge ( 8K miles when purchased). In all those miles, I put brakes and a clutch on the 2000, Ball joints on the 2004 and a few miscellaneous items. The best transmission was the 6 speed Dodge Auto. (Better than the Allison). The 2004 was my favorite truck of the bunch. The Chevy was my least favorite. I am not towing or hauling as much and found the upkeep, initial purchase price, and the empty mileage of the diesel hard to justify in my situation.
When I do tow, I greatly miss the torque that the diesel offered. My last Dodge had a tow rating that was not much difference than the F150. It had a much higher GCWR, but it weighed 2000 lbs more as well. I could put a 10K lbs trailer behind the Dodge and set the cruise and it would rarely downshift. The F 150 will also pull the same trailer, but it has to work much harder to do so. I also miss the higher mileage when towing. I do not miss the the three gallon oil changes, the $40 dollar fuel filter every 15K miles and the worry of very expensive emission components quiting after warranty.
The F150 has performed very well. I have had a few minor issues, front seat leather coming unclipped, occasional severe shift, Vacuum control module failure, and the brakes are shaking even though they have a ton of pad left. I had the transmission serviced and the spark plugs replaced at 100K, something non of my other trucks required, and I will change all of the fluids in the Diff and transfer case soon. I plan of keeping the truck another year or so depending on what the model change looks like next year. If the old model looks superior then I will trade for a late 2013. If the new model looks better, I will wait until mid to late MY 2014 to trade when the deals get a little better.
I expect to have to put ball joints on this truck around 150K, as well as my third set of tires around the same time.

I work for a farm equipment manufacturer and travel FL, GA, AL, and MS with an occasional trip to Brazil (by air) and IA (drive or fly) I used to pull/haul quite a bit of equipment , but the liability forced us to push that responsibility down to the dealer level.
I have the 5.4. It really could use some more power, but I will trade that for longevity.

I had it in my head that it would be a MY 2014. I am not sure that I am willing to wait two and a half years. That would put me over 250K. Guess I will see how it goes, but might trade this time next year for a left over 2013. That will put me at about 170K miles.
My truck looks as good as any two year old truck on the road. Wonder what it might be worth?

My '11 platinum with the 6 speed and Eco boost shifts hard sometimes too. But I have asked transmission shops about hard shifting and they have all said it's a "strong transmission if it shifts hard".
I believe that especially going back to my muscle car days. I wouldn't worry about it if I was you. It's better than slipping !!!
