Default Howdy. Observations.

Howdy.

2009 F150 Scab XLT 4x4. Just came from an '05 Z71 four door. Before that were Chevys also. Decided to help out Ford's non-bailout attempt at survival. First some observations.

Had both trucks at home for about a month before turning the Z71 back in. The two trucks were absolutely identical in overall length. Z71 set a lot lower both front and rear, but that could be due to suspension sag over it's 100,000 mile life. Got the 150 home and changed the front door speakers first day. Went with same size Infinity. BTW, you can do this without pulling off the entire door panel, or cutting anything, contrary to some posts, youtube videos, etc. Just takes a few extra minutes of patience. Pulled the speaker grille, unbolted and worked out the factory speaker and worked the new ones in with the adapter plug. Added Weathertech mats and a bed mat. I had an Undercover for the Chevy, may get one for this truck. Not sure yet. Since the kids are gone I decided on a Scab instead of a Screw. More bed room and I haul motorcycles and drums quite a bit. I can get my motorcycles in there and close the tailgate.

Don't likes:
I have the slide out cupholders under the middle front seat area, which is fine except for the layout (I don't use the ones in the fold down center backrest to hold drinks). Wish the designer would have put the cutouts on the outside area instead of the center of the tray. A cup with a handle has to either face away from you, or you have to put it in the passenger side to face you. No way two cups with handles will fit in there. Seems a fairly obvious oversight.

Just like the wife's Fusion, the dimmer switch does not light up at night. Why? In case they didn't notice, when you're trying to turn on the inside lights in the dark, it would be nice to have the thumbwheel that performs this function lit up so you can see it. Everything else in the truck is lit up well except this.

The seatbelt is a pain to reach around and get ahold of. If you've spent any time getting in and out of a Chevy you probably noticed it's a lot easier to do.

Put the sync port in the console from the factory. I read about the second port mod, but it needs to go in the console to start with. The Fusion has it located there and it's much nicer.

Sun can wash out the radio/temp/compass display.

Why do I have to turn on the cruise control everytime? A switch to permanently leave it on would be nice. I get in and head out, hit the set button on the cruise, then realize I have to hit on and then set. Little thing, but it's a thing.

Wash the truck instructions seem to be as follows: Wash truck, dry, wipe water draining from Ford logo on tailgate, repeat the wipe Ford logo for the next three hours.

Front brake dust. Wow.

Drives and rides nice. Good view from mirrors. Nice control layout and gauges have a clear view thru the steering wheel. I like the open bay the hood provides. No gas cap, sweet. Headrests haven't been an issue as I actually find them quite comfortable. 36 gallon tank is also nice. I can go a whole week on one fillup. I like sync. Sliding rear window is nice. Had the rear window defroster on the Chevy and never used it so I got the electric slide. Puts a lot of air thru the truck if you want.

Ive got 3,500 miles on it so far. It's a company vehicle so I won't have much insight on maintenance or serviceability from a self performance standpoint. I am interested to see how the 4x4 performs this winter.

I need to read the manual and find out if this truck will let you know if you leave a turnsignal on. There's a route on my way to work where I use a left signal, and the turn is right on the borderline of cancelling the signal. The Chevy would chime and post in the display if the signal was on after a short while. I've noticed a few times since driving the Ford the signal on and no notification.

Sorry for the long winded post. Just wanted to say hi, thanks for the info I've found here, and I'll be around. I've also got a Sportrac so I'm fully Ford now. I hope the F150 provides the troublefree years the Chevy trucks have in the past.

Oh yeah, Royal Red are the fastest BTW.

Nice truck.

When any of us someday owns an auto company too, like Ford, we can build cars how we like I guess.

Was there a good sound difference after changing the speakers out?

Yep. The stock speakers were pretty poor. I like these a lot better. They sound really good with Sirius.

I left out how much I like the reverse sensing and six speed tranny on this truck. So far my tranny shifts smooth and firm.

Thanks, I will check out the speakers. I wouldn't mind upgrading the stock speakers.

Plus, I am still liking and wanting to try out that great tip about changing out the fronts w/o having to remove the entire door panel, as others have been doing. Thanks

Were these 5x7's or 6x8's? Some guys mention how they are 5x7 but 6x8 will fit etc etc. Especially how you were able to work the new speakers in I want to make sure I get right ones

And what model Infinity you like up front?

Thanks a lot.

Infinity 6822cf is what I used. The guy at the store talked me out of the higher priced Infinity. He said they had installed it with stock decks and it didn't sound good unless you were going to push more power to it. I asked if they had the higher priced ones in stock and he showed them to me, so it wasn't a case of trying to sell me something just because that was all they had.

The 6822cf is listed as 6x8/5x7 custom fit. They go in without any modifications.

I watched this video before the install.

Two things. You can get the old speakers out and the new ones in without cutting anything. Just takes some time, rotation of the speaker, and some patience.

I also got the adapters so you just snap those onto the factory plug, snap the other end onto the new speaker, and you're good to go. I think the adapters were $12 at Best Buy.
