2010 FX4 Engine Issue
Looking for help. My 2010 FX4 has been back at the dealer for two weeks and they are still scratching thier heads. Returned it due to extremely poor fuel economy, 14 avg dropping to 10 if towing. Engine was overheated on day one upon a heater hose blowing off about 2 miles from dealer. They report a power loss on on both front cylinders, yet compression test proves out. Any one out there had similar issue?

Thats what I am affraid of. I just cannot believe that in this techno engine age they cannot pin point issues in a blink. They also believe it may have a issue with the torque converter, Lucky Me.

14 MPG with the 5.4L when new is normal. Mine slowly has come up to 16 MPG in mixed driving. Hit 17 MPG (mostly hwy) yesterday. About 3500 miles on the odometer. Many are reporting the economy improves to at least the rated figures once in gets ~5K miles.
I got between 9-10 MPG towing a 25' travel trailer (5000 lbs). I don't expect this figure to improve much as the engine breaks in.

I have 10K Miles (16400 K) on her, she should be well broke. Seems extremely bad when under any type of load. There has to be something, hopefully they find something.
Loner Truck.. That would have been nice, maybe I should bitch a little louder.

the no loaner truck is BS complain more, they need to give you transportation, its that simple, or take it to another dealer. All the other stuff is a pain but it does happen, just work with the dealer to get what you want. I am surprised it overheated as normally it would have gone into limp mode and not TRUELY overheated.

14 mpg is what these trucks get, and 10 towing is....what they get. MOTORTREND just finished its long-term test and the truck averaged 14 mpg over 28,000 mostly highway miles.

hmm, interesting I like the long term testing. It must be the way I drive but I get better than that....... I guess I am an early grandpa.
Found the MOTOR TREND artical and if you look it specificly states 14.5 overall while often heavily loaded down, next time read the whole thing before you post nonsense. It also specificly stated this truck was used to ferry 3500 lbs for a race team towing in the mountains. I would think 14.5 over 28000 miles IN VARIOUS conditions, not just HWY as you stated, was very good.

Over 28K-plus miles, we observed a 14.5-mpg fuel-economy average, not bad for a rig so large (and so often heavily loaded) but, clearly, you wouldn't want to buy and drive an F-150 unless you really need one. Just as clearly, though, huge numbers of Americans do indeed need a top-flight, roll-up-its-sleeves pickup. Ford's ever-popular F-150, we can say with complete confidence, is just such a machine.
