2010 FX4 Air Conditioner Problem
OK, this is my first Ford and so far im not very happy. I had the truck and at 1700 miles the A/C clutch locked up. I took it in, no big deal it happens. Well at 1908 miles it locked up again. This time I was mad. They fix that by finding a tech note that says the Torque setting in the A/C compressor was too tight.
Ok so they evaporate the coolant and replace the pulley and compressor, now at 2055 miles it is not cooling very well.
I am thinking I need to take it back and have them check the charge, would anyone else agree. I had the auto temp on and it was at 60, but I didnt feel cold air. I then turned the fan down to med and still no cold air. I then went to one level above low and I could feel some cold, but not real cold.
You opinion would help. Thanks

when the truck is running & with the A/C turned all the way cold + Max, pop the hood & see if the suction line (usually the larger of the 2 lines) on the compressor is cold to the touch & "sweating" with condensation. if not, then it's probably low on charge.
another indicator is the compressor clutch kicking in & out repeatedly ("short cycling").
they either didn't get enough charge in it, there is a leak, it wasn't pumped down properly, or a combination of the 3.
if it were me, I'd demand the system be evacuated, tested for leaks. pumped & recharged when everything was fixed.

Thanks kmac. I just tried that and left it on for about 5 minutes and the suction line did not have any condensation on it. It is humid here in Kansas today, so it should have formed some. I think when I drive it home I will check it again after a longer trip.
If not, back to dealer I go.
As for moving to Seattle aeoguy, no thanks. I dont like that much rain.

I noticed mine today would blow cold, then a little warmer, then get colder again. It went back and forth while driving home today in 98* heat with the AC on full blast. If I turned the fan down some it would feel warmer. I'll have to look at the suction line for condensation.

ut! Three times for the same problem! What's the Lemon Law say???
Seriously, that sucks. Last thing you want to do after paying that kind of scratch on a new truck is have issues. Sorry, dude.

Take it back. It is been pretty hot and humid here in KC and my AC is cold.

3. The vehicle has been out of service for a total of 30 or more days. This period may be extended if the repairs have not been made due to circumstances beyond the control of the manufacturer, such as fire, flood, strike, war or natural disaster.
4. Under certain extreme conditions, the vehicle may qualify with only one visit to the shop

Nope, it was pretty steady traffic. Not stand-still traffic, but it was still pretty jammed up. I was maybe keeping it at a consistent 60mph.
