Here's a 2010-2012 (has the XL wheels that started in 2010 and the 3 bar grille used up till 2013.
Obviously a construction truck, but still, they don't need to be rusting out this fast.
I posted a photo of my truck as a comparison. Mine has seen 2 or 3 more winters than the newer one below yet shows none of the same rust signs.
Wheel well rust, cab corner rust and the pass side running board. Wow, looks like there's barely any metal. It would fall off if you step on it (click the photo and zoom in).

I see many '09-'12's with "rocker rot". Anywhere where they use salt on the roads in the winter, rust will be the #1 nemesis of the body and frame. Undercoating and rustproofing is a good investment if you will have the truck for any length of time. I'm pretty **** about my truck, with frequent washing and waxing. After 5 years, I've done 3 repaints on the running boards. The rust that is starting on the body is around the bumper back-up sensors, the inner lip of the tailgate, and one corner of the high mount brake light. Being proactive is the best bet.

I'm curious too. I'm going to bite the bullet sooner than later and buy a new truck anyway.

Absolutely agree. I feel like they take a lot more work than a basic car to keep them from rusting out, yet, they are supposed be made to do so much more.

If it hasnt started rusting yet or very little I always suggest cleaning the inside of rockers several times to get the dirt and gunk out of it and opening the drain holes. Then when you have them clean Ive read others using things like fluid film to coat the metal.

Check the OP's first post. His rockers are gone.
