*help* my 2009 f-150 stx died on the road
So I am driving on the road at about 40 mph when I suddenly slow down at some blinking lights. Before coming to a complete stop, I give my truck gas and notice that the truck is not moving. I manage to get to a parking lot close by and as I turn I notice my steering wheel is stiff. All of a sudden my truck dies on me and an oil indicator light comes on. This wasn't your ordinary "change oil soon" light, it was an oil tin emblem. I went throught the owner manual and was unable to find what it was. I have never experienced anything like this and before this event, my truck was running just fine.
I turned it on several times and it stays on for about 2 seconds and suddenly turns off on its own. I have power, gas, and the oil levels are good.
My truck has only 42K miles, what can possibly be wrong?

did u check to see if coolant was there? the way u said ur truck stopped usually happens with a over heated with damage done motor. was the motor over heating?
your oil light came on because once the motor dies, there is no more oil pressure. it has nothing to do with the oil, atleast nothing i can think of.

That sounds like what happened on my old truck. I was going down the interstate and the motor started revving and my speed just kept dropping. then i noticed the oil pressure was gone. was going to get off at the next exit but the truck died within a few hundred feet and i lost it all. had it towed to ford and if i remember correctly the oil pump had malfunctioned and they replaced the motor. which was still under warranty from them replacing it a few months prior.
This was a 95 F-150, so take this for what its worth. But sounds like a very similar situation.
Hope this helps and hope you get your problem figured out and fixed soon

Bummer. I hope your dealership takes care of you on this. Back in the olden days, when I was in college, I buy a used Honda Civic with high miles, but "they're highway miles" ( never fall for this ).. Second week I own it, on the highway, the oil light and master alert lights come on and as i'm looking at them and trying to start to move towards an exit, boom, the engine seizes and I have to jam in the clutch and dive to the shoulder. Oil pump failure. Japanese engine lasts about 5 seconds with no or low oil pressure. Once they were tearing down the engine ( ended up buying another engine ) they found a little over an inch of sludge in the bottom of the oil pan and this car was only 5 years old.
Hey good news though... It's Friday!!!

I had a similar issue when I bought a brand new 2001 SCrew off the lot. It would die randomly on occasion, however, after I would always have it towed to the dealer, it would start right up just fine.
After numerous and frustrating incidents, it FINALLY died while in the dealer's hands and it ended up being a bad ECU from the factory.
New one cleared it completely.
Something to contemplate in your troubleshooting...

Sounds like you might have a bad Mass Air Flow sensor or The Idle Air Control Valve. I would try tapping on the valve see if that helps if not try unplugging the MAF and try starting

The dealer just called and said there must've been some dirt in the "Mass Air Flow sensor".
11Tux, can you tell me where this sensor is?
Thanks,
Linda

The MAF is located on the air inlet hose coming from the air filter. It measures the amount and density of the air entering the engine.
