Hey Guys,

Reading the manual (unless I missed it) it looks like I go in for my first oil change when the Life Meter reads like 10%. I know with Honda motors they tell you to run it until the meter reads 10% too. Does this also apply to my Coyote 5.0?

Vehicles with a 3.5L, 3.7L or 5.0L engine,
are equipped with the
Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor® (IOLM) system which shows a message in
the information display at the proper oil change service interval. This
interval may be up to one year or 10000 miles (16000 kilometers). When
ENGINE OIL CHANGE DUE or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED appears in the
information display, it’s time for an oil change; the oil change must be
done within two weeks or 500 miles (800 kilometers) of the ENGINE OIL
CHANGE DUE or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message appearing. The
Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor® must be reset after each oil change. See the
Information Displays
chapter.
If your information display is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative,
you should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5000 miles
(8000 kilometers) from your last oil change. Never exceed one year or
10000 miles (16000 kilometers) between oil change intervals

I changed mine at 5K and have changed it every 5K since new. Full synthetic 5w/20 and a FL500s filter. Seems to me that would be adequate protection for my driving conditions. Don't try to over think this. Use good oil and filter and be consistent when you choose to change the oil.

Okay so generally just follow the dashboard - got it. My first oil change is free so I'll let Ford put in whatever they normally do. I was going to switch to full synthetic for my 2nd oil change.

I really think going the full extent of the oil level monitor is a bit extreme. In my case I went at the 6 month mark which was 8,500KM for me and my oil life monitor read 45% at that time so it was accurate to say 16,000KM is when the oil life monitor would recommend the change. Some people are still changing at 3K on 5K points since they are so old school. I think peace of mind doing it a bit more often is not a bad thing.

Also consider your driving habits. Do you tow much or drive the truck harder conditions? Consider it more often a little common sense goes a long way.

My driving is mainly highway. The only reason I'm really rev'ing the engine and punching it every now and than is to break it in properly. I even take a different way home so that I can accelerate a few times and give it some motivation every once in awhile. Otherwise my drive would be 90% burbling down the highway at 1700 RPMs.

First oil change at 8,000 miles. The new trucks have much larger oil capicty no need to change every 5,000 miles.

I plan on changing mine at 5000. 2013 EcoBoost.

Is this the right mileage for everyone? No. Could I go longer? Sure

Does this system actually monitor the condition of the oil or it just records mileage and alerts you when the set mileage is met?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the answer. IT DOES NOT MONITOR OIL CONDITIONS.......
