Default 2009 Brake System Upgrade?

I was talking to the tech working on my truck and asked him if he knew what was changed from the 2009 F150 to the 2010 F150 brake system since we all know they beefed them up.

He stated that all that was changed was to add larger rotors and bigger pads. I am thinking of making the changes when it's time to do my brakes as there is a night and day difference in stopping power with the 2010 loaner I am using and my 2009.

Has anyone have any other info that would either conflict with the tech or confirm his statement?

Thanks,
Bob

So with "bigger pads" wouldn't you need different calipers also?

Depends on what is bigger on the pads. Thicker pads = No need for different calipers. Over all length increase = Need different calipers.

According to the 2010 Brochure the brake booster was modified the rotors are 6% larger the calipers were also revised and the master cylinder's piston is 12% larger. Hope this helps

Seems like it could be a lot of work and expense to me. Are the 09 brakes really that bad?

"Are the 09 brakes really that bad?" Well, for me, stopping power is just fine. But - and this is the only grumble I really have so far (16K miles) - one or maybe both of the front rotors have warped slightly. Not enough to affect stopping ability, but enough to be annoying when I brake normally. Maybe this is the reasoning behind the larger rotor?

Maybe it's just my driving style. Anyone else have this problem? I have the pre-paid Premium Care maintenance which covers brake wear and tear, so I expect the dealer will turn the rotors and fix this but it would be nice if the new rotors (can 6% be that much larger?) could be retrofitted without having to replace the calipers, too.

Anyone know if the increase is in the diameter or the thickness, or both?

im glad to see they are fixing the brake problems by beafing up the brakes and rotors. My 2006 F150 has a horribly weak rotors that will warp easily.

Hmmm, must have missed that. If that is indeed the case then aftermarket rotors (slotted) and upgraded pads would be the way to go IMO rather than changing everything out.

After doing some more research it appears the best way to go is to just get a better brake pad (Hawk) and keep the stock rotors.
