This man speaks the truth. A 2V 4.6L will drive a 4V Coyote right into the ground. Then do 250K more miles.

I’m sure that’s because the 5.0L is slightly younger than the 4.6. Wait til those 11-14 owners’ trucks get a little older and rack up some miles in those coyotes. I’m not dismissing that the 4.6 is a good motor, I just think two motors with comparable mileage and age should be compared before a judgement is made.

No way. The 2V 4.6L is simplified version of the Coyote, with an iron block. The 4V engines top ends and timing components are just not as reliable as the 2V engines. More tensioners, valves, valve seats, valve springs, and timing chains. Throw in the VVT stuff the Coyote uses and it's not even close in my mind. A 2V 4.6L is the most reliable V8 Ford has ever produced. Not real powerful, but it'll run forever.

6.2 >

I see them at auctions with up to 500k on the odo. Seems like a pretty bulletproof engine.

Yes, the 6.2L is pretty much the strongest engine that you will find under the hood of an F-150

I have a 13 regular cab longbed XL. The problems I’ve had are with the sound system. 2 modules and two speakers replaced. Also had the ignition cylinder replaced and the spare tire lock broke.
overall out of all the trucks I’ve had over the years this is my favorite. Get the 302 and you’re good to go.

if you do get the 13 make sure it has the updated transmission software.

Bought my truck using the codes from fords model year specifications web pages.
4.6 3V with trailer tow and 3.55 Limited slip (H9).

I have the 3:31 in my truck. I really like the rear end on the interstates. Having said that I don't tow right now. The 3:31 is good for fuel economy as well.

OP is looking for a low cost basic work truck. Any 6.2L truck is not going to be cheap, even if you can find the hen's tooth lowest cost XLT version with a 6.2L.

Still say a 2010 with a 4.6 2V and auto is the way to go for cheap and reliable.
