Default 195,000 is the Breaking Point they say!

Just as I hit 195,008.00 miles, on my 2009 XLT 4.6l I hit a bump at 15mph and the rear end went to crap.

So last week I had my oil changed and front & Rear diffs checked, well they showed me the little pieces of metal thet was stuck to the plugs magnet on each diff. yes, it was small gear pieces. Mind you never ever had any type of noise nor issue prior to the checking.

Then on Labor day thats when it all went South.
I coasted into a parking lot placed the truck in drive with Ebrake set, the Drive Shaft didnt spin nor did it when I gave it gas, I placed the truck in Park and I could push the truck back as if in N., since I have a 4wd I tried locking in 4H but It wouldnt go in, when I went to 4L it made the Loudest Nastiest noise before engaugeing in. I drove home a good 15miles home at 20mph in 4L, I know probably not smart but being laied off that was my only money saver home. While doing so it sounded like a loud *** knock the whole way comeing from my rear end. Assuming it is my ring gear.

And Im unsure of what kind of axle they are i pulled the tag # and all i know is 8.8

Cant figure out the other # meanings

I have been calling all over even junk yards

The prices for used, rebuilt or new is close to 4K
I cant afford that now because the oilfields lost here in WEST AND NORTH TEXAS

What would anyone do in this situation i guess is my question.
This is also my only vehical and i have 3 kids

Tring to fix fast someway.

Thanks yall

try using car-part to search junkyards. Not sure what gear ratio you got but i saw rear axle assemblies starting at $800 in Texas.

You need to go by the axle code on the drivers side door jam tag. Match it up to Ford's axle chart.

In your situation, I would have it towed to a dealer, and trade it as is on a low cost car to haul your kids. That is the fastest and ultimately most economical out of pocket solution.

You'll need that axle tag, forget the door jam. First thing I used to tell my Ford Heavy Line techs...bring me the axle tag!
Through Ford's Engineering sheet they can look up all the pertinent info for your axle.
Kinda like this:

Cept more up to date...
