157in wheel base vs 145 wheel base
looking at a new trucks and I am interested in a XLT 4x4 SCREW w/6.5 bed. I was wondering if the 157in wheel base compared to the 145 wheelbase handles all that different. I really like the idea of 4 doors and the larger bed but wonder what the negative's are?. I suspect that the larger bed is not that big of a seller as they have about 3 compared to 200 5.5ft bed SCREWS.

I have had both. The longer wheel base is a little different, but not a deal killer. Get the truck that you want. You can deal with the increased wheel base.
I recommend the back-up camera. It is easier to back into a parking space, than to pull in. The back-up camera let's you make full use of the available parking space without chinking the armor.

I looked long and hard for a crew cab long bed and love it. More truck for the money and looks more size proportional with the big cab. Downside is slightly less payload capacity due to truck's overall weight. Boo hoo, big deal. Not a major concern for me.
Also, backup camera is a godsend! Will not have another vehicle without it.

I bought a 157" WB a couple months ago. I drove it and a 145" WB and they both felt similar to me on the test drive.
I like having a 6.5' bed as I do a lot of woodworking and like the extra length to carry planks and sheet goods. I can also put a couple dirt bikes in the bed with the tailgate up. You may be able to do this with a 5.5' bed.
The truck rides very well. I usually make sure I take wide turns so I don't bump the tires, especially down town where the streets are narrow.
It is tough parking sometimes in parking lots. If you pull into a space with the front of the truck on the forward line, it seems like the truck sticks out farther than most other vehicles. I usually try to find a place with a grass or concrete divider between the rows or the edge of the parking lot and back in so it overhangs over the grass area. I have a backup camera and this makes it easy to do this. I have always parked away from everybody anyway.

I have the XLT supercrew with the 6.5 bed and I love it compared to my old 05 super cab. Turning radius is not that bad and like others have said, make sure you get the back up camera.
