14 mpg?
#21
I came from a Ram Cummins and frequented the Cummins forum. Guys were putting on Duratracs and dropping 3mpg. That's on a diesel so I would think that it MAY be more on a gasser. Don't really know first hand; just what I read. They said the tires were very heavy My 5.0 with 20's gets 15 around town and I just went on a long highway trip and got between 18-19 mpg @ 70-75mph hand calculated.

Someone correct me I'm wrong but I believe a lot of mpg loss is due to tire ply combined with weight? Tread plays a role but not as much as tire weight and size! Obviously the larger the tire the more the weight...........

When I first got my 2013 XLT 4x4 5.0 with 3:55 gears it was bone stock , the best I saw was 17.1 mpg 70-75 mph .... not long after that I had my leveling Pro Comp Coil overs installed .. dropped to 16.0 mpg with oem tires .... Went to a 285/70/17 Cooper Discovery max and the milage dropped down to a low of 13.1 ..... Installed a new AEM dryflow and gained 1 mpg ... as it sits now 14.1 That isnt great .... but compared to my 02 its night and day ..... I never check the mpg on it because it was so bad ...35x12.50 and 6.5 lift will do that for ya

I bought my '14 3.5EB Fx4 in late August and have seen a drop in mileage when its cold. (Florida, but its still cold) I too only drive 12 miles to work and the truck is so cold natured, its not even completely up to operating temperature by the time I get to work. That is what I attribute poor gas mileage to. I will be curious to see if, and how much, it will go up once it warms back up.

I've been wanting to put new tires on my XLT, but the MPG loss of the Duratracs has kept me away from them. I threw them on my 12 Sierra, and lost 2.5 MPG. I had BFG KO's on my 92 cherokee and loved the performance, so I'll stick it out and wait for the KO2's to come out with a 275/70R18, simply because in Canada they're $50/each cheaper than stock size -.-

Here's where I'm at based my FuelLog app.
'14 5.0 SCREW
275/55/20 117T Cooper AT3
3.55
90% highway mileage
I usually set my cruise at 73/74mph
WV - lots of hills, no flat highways.
The 12mpg from January was E85 and almost all highway.
Some of the 14mpg entries I had 1,000lbs of industrial starters in the bed.
My best was 18.4 back in July on a trip to Hilton Head.

mpg numbers mean very little w/o average speed numbers.
i can average 21.5 mpg for 20 miles on the way to work because i set the cruise just under 65.
as soon as i exit and start sitting in traffic it drops off quickly. 0-35-0-40-0-50-0 for 5 miles stopping every 1/4 mile at a light will bring it down to 16 mpg. So I could see if your average speed was in the low 30's your mpg would be sub 15.

Well, I have to drive to the freeway, which is about a mile. Then to my work from the freeway which is another 2 miles or so of stop and go traffic. So I guess it all averages out. My average per tank is about 14.1, Not to mention running around town on the weekend. I am more then happy with 14mpg. My Denali gets about 12mpg with the 350 motor in it.
