Trailer lights or wiring blew either the brake light bulbs or the fuse. The truck will lock the truck from shifting if it doesn't sense current in the brakelight circuit. Look at your instruction manual for the way to bypass the interlock (it IS in there), check fuses, or replace the bulbs.

I didn't hook up my trailer lights is the thing. That's why I am at a loss. I looked through the manual and did not see how to bypass the system. My lights work. Just no brake lights. I will try one more time in the daylight tomorrow but if nothing then its going to the dealership

Do you have a remote start? This happened to me once but luckily the remote start bailed me out.

Looked online and it looks like page 217-218 will show how to bypass.

you've got a blown fuse. replace the one for the brake light circuit.

It wouldn't have anything to do with blown bulbs --- afterall what's the chances all 3 would go at the same time ?

The shifter has an interlock solenoid that is controlled by the brake switch ( located at the brake pedal lever ). This interlock doesn't sense current flow in the brake circuit per se --- rather ---- it receives a control voltage from the brake switch to actuate the solenoid , allowing the shifter to move from Park while depressing the brake pedal.

Considering all the brake lamps are not working and the shifter won't unlock then it's likely fuse......
#46 - Brake on/off ( BOO ) switch - 10A
#31 BOO-IP,BOO-Engine - 5A
#18 Brake-Shift interlock , Keypad illumination , PCM wakeup , PATS- 10A ( unless there are these other things aren't working then I wouldn't suspect this one blown )

-- or ---

the brake switch ( and/or it's accociated wiring ) is faulty or misaligned.

As mentioned --- there is a manual way to unlock the shifter outlined in the manual.
Keep in mind if you do manually unlock the shifter and decide to drive the vehicle to the dealer -- you won't have any brake lights.

My 2 cents worth.

If it is a fuse something had to cause it to blow. You don't see many fuses that blow for no particular reason.

I went through every associated fuse and they were all good. I took my console apart and manually bypassed the interlock and drove it to the dealership. Of course they wouldn't give me a vehicle to drive. But they did give me a ride to work...we will see what it is. Apparently they have never seen this problem before...

Well it was the switch actuated by the brake pedal was stuck open... They ordered a new one and put it on before 3pm yesterday. As I was driving back to the office I had the cruise set. When I went to tap the brake to slow down my cruise control would not disengage until I pushed the pedal about half way. And as I was pulling into the parking lot my "service advance trac soon" light came on and something about hill decent. Needless to say I took it back to the dealership and am in a loaner car all weekend. They called today and said it was fixed so I will pick it up Monday and see if they actually fixed it this time.
