Thank you.
My 2013 f150 just started doing this..only 60k miles...said the water pump is leaking as well as t connector? And thermostat..are quoting me about $1,000 to fix it...def feel like this is way too soon for this...this is one of many issues I have had with my f150.

WTF? $1000 for a water pump, t/stat and degas tank on a 5.0? I'd expect about half that price at the most.

You can get a 3.5L Ford engine waterpump done at a Ford dealer for $1500 in a FWD car/SUV. That would include dropping the exhaust, supporting the engine, dropping the subframe, pulling the tire and wheel well liner, stripping the entire front of the engine, taking off the timing cover, R&R the pump and then put it all back together.

I started this thread a couple years ago and it seems like there are quite a few 5.0 water pumps failing and it doesn't seem like pumps fail often in modern vehicles. I just find it strange that I've replaced 2 water pumps on vehicles in 30+ years of driving. One on a 1991 when it was 15 years old and one on a 2012 when it was 3 years old. Also, that $1000 quote is crazy for that job and a $75 pump.

I didn't do mine because it failed at 16k miles and it was warranty work. Obviously a supplier quality issue going on. There are some how to's floating around here and it looks relatively easy to swap a pump on the 5.0 & RockAuto has the motorcraft parts for a good price, a lot better than the dealership.
The dealer commented to me that if it was any help that he rarely see's the pump fail after changed once. LOL, yeah common sense, if it fails again it will most likely be out of warranty and most people will take to a local mechanic or just fix themselves.

The last few weeks thought I was smelling coolant but no way could be my truck and I was just over reacting was my thought. Well today got in the engine compartment and saw some red drips on the oil filter looking like they slung off the pullies. Got an inspection mirror and flashlight hoping just a hose clamp or one of those crazy hose junctions and sure enough the water pump is leaking at the bottom where the pump meets the block. I can't freaking win. Replaced at 15,900 miles last October and now leaking again at 29,000 miles, didn't even make a year.

Either o-ring moved when it was bolted down and pinched, over torqued, bad water pump replacement part or something going on with the block face. I am hoping for the easy explanation root cause o-ring pinched at install. Dealer is back up 2 weeks so I can't get the truck in until the 11th. Service manager looked at the leak as I had the hood up and mirror/flashlight out and said he would order the parts prior to my visit, I hope he remembers so truck isn't tied up multiple days.

This dealer sells a lot of F-150's and he said he doesn't even recall a water pump failing on the 5.0 in quite some time, just the opposite of the Chicago dealer that changed it last who said they see them go and luckily once they replace it doesn't need to be done again. Correction is probably doesn't see it a second time because most are out of warranty by then and go to an independent or just fix it themselves.

Just wanted to put this out there for anyone that can turn a socket wrench, there's only 4 bolts that hold the pump on once you remove the pulley, super easy for the mechanically declined <-- is dat a word? LOL.

Anyway, 2011-2014 5.0 water pump.

Ha, yep, I am not mechanically declined, the truck is still under warranty.
Thanks for posting that picture, great reference.

Wasn't the o-ring. Pump #2 was also leaking out the weep hole, pump failed.
It was replaced last October at 15,900 miles and again today at 30,400 miles.
Hope this one lasts longer than a year of previous.

What is going on with the 5.0 water pumps?

I am sorry if this was answered somewhere else. How do I remove or loose the belt that is on the water pump pulley? Thank you!
My 2012 5.0 has 213,000 miles and now a small coolant leak only under pressure. Water pump does not make any weird noise. I checked hoses and reservoir, and I think leak is at the water pump. Thanks for all your help.
