Have an 09 Supercrew 4x4 XLT with 61k miles. Few month's back got in truck and would not turn over. Thought bad battery so did an all day charge. After charging truck cranked fine and I drove it to have battery tested at 2 places (Autozone and Advanced). Both said battery was fine but Autozone said starter was bad. Didn't understand that since truck cranked fine with fully charged battery. Now a couple of months later, with no issues since, I go outside early on cold morning, fire up truck and go back into house to get some coffee. When i come out, truck not running and when i try to crank, turns over but will not fire. In fact, it will keep turning over even when i release the key which is weird. I have to physically turn key back to get it to stop. Anyone seen this problem and know where i should look first? thanks in advance.

Most likely a faulty solenoid; but remember, they are no longer up under the hood like in earlier model trucks. They are now integrated with the starter motor, down under.

Just one of the reasons I purchased the Ford ESP for the period of time/miles I have expected to own this truck before trading on a new one; wherein I don't worry about this kind of issue, I just drive it down to the dealer (or in this case, have AAA tow it in.

Not sure your problem not much help sorry but I can tell u its normal for it to keep crancking over till it starts all u have to do is give it a quick flick and let go and it will turn over for u till it starts every time

My 09 work truck did that. There is an issue with the fuel pump in the tank. It actually bent inside the tank from pressure. Dealer replaced it and it is fine now.

a fuel issue will not keep a vehicle cranking once the key has been released from the start position. Usually its a starter that is staying engaged, however to diag the system start at the source from the ignition lock cylinder and trace/troubleshoot from there

it is NORMAL for the truck to keep cranking after releasing the key. You guys don't use this feature?! You do NOT need to hold to crank when cranking the engine. You just need to turn to crank and let go right away. The truck will crank until it starts!

I use this feature all the time & surprised how many do not - His problem is fuel or ignition related & should invest in a code reader as a fault should of been recorded in the PCM
