I have a 2010 Explorer Sport Trac, which uses the flareside F150 tailgate. I would like to use the emblem camera in combination with an oem backup camera mirror. My truck has Sync with the mic on the top of the mirror. Also the mirror is auto dimming.

Can someone point me in the right direction to a mirror part number that would be best for my situation? I have read about an external sync mic swap, but also see that there is a mirror that has the sync mic and backup screen? I understand that I will need to wire up the camera from the tailgate to the headliner, but any advice on how to repin/rewire the plug I have now for my current mirror into a sync/backup mirror would also be appreciated! This is a great thread, just a little overwhelming reading about all of the different combinations of F150 setups and trying to tell what would apply to my truck.

Thanks for any help!

Default Sport Trac

I was also planning to do the same thing with my 2008 Sport trac. However I am contemplating not using my mirror as you can use your navigation to display the picture with a Lockpick. If you have a nav you could do the same.

I haven't done the install yet, but have all of the 2009 F150 parts including mirror, camera and harnesses for the headliner and tailgate that I picked up from a junk yard. You will probably also need to cut into your tailgate using the template available on these forums in order to fit the camera. I don't believe the 2010 Sport trac has the cutout for camera under the emblem, at least mine didn't. I will most likely use only the mirror part of the F150 harnesses to splice into.

I already replaced my original headliner harness once when I retrofit Sync to my vehicle so would basically probably just splice into the mirror plug this time and run the video wires down the passenger pillar.

You may also contact these folks as they list the Sport Trac as working with their Kit.

I've installed an OEM backup camera and park assist system in my F150 2012 SCREW. But the dealer can't seem to re-flash it to add the functions under the driver assist menu. Has anyone figured out how to over ride the VIN number limitations for the as built configuration?
Thanks!

OK I have read this over and over,

Heres my dilemma and install,

2010 F150, Kenwood DNX6190HD HU, OEM F150 backup camera. IDatalink Maestro rr

I am using Brown, Brown/yellow for video, connected to harness from camera then twisted shielded wire all the way to HU with RCA into back of camera input.

shield Is not connected, it was connected to ground but made no difference.

the power comes from 7 pin trailer connector and is attached to Grey wire from camera.

the black/green ground wire is attached to White from 7pin connector and attached to frame of truck.

the deck is installed using the Idata link maestro rr.

if I put a small tv in truck and connect the camera rca to it the picture is crystal clear, when I hook it to the HU it gets all wavy with squiggly lines in it.

any help or ideas why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Try a couple different things with the shield wire and see if any one of them improves the image:

1. Tie it to the video (-) Brown/Yellow
2. Tie it to chassis ground - Seems like you tried this
3. Use it as video (-) and leave Brown/Yellow floating.

Cheers,
I will try what you suggested tomorrow, my car audio guy is going to get me an rca line convertor as well.
Hopefully with any luck I can get a good image on the screen
I'll keep you posted
And if anyone is interested I found and ordered the proper female connector and pins that connect directly to the camera harness to alleviate cutting into the harness and keeps everything waterproof. I can post the part numbers if anyone wants them.
Thanks

Well I tried everything suggested and still have interference on screen.
so I made up a new connector with RG59U cable, factory RCA on one end and bare leads on the other (no difference)
If I put a small tv in cab of truck and connect the camera to that my picture is perfect.
should I try to ground my HU to the frame of truck with an independent ground wire?
as it is now the HU is just grounded through the OEM harness wires.
maybe if I remove one of the screws on the HU and run a ground to the frame it will help????

I could not get RCA line filter, called all my local car installers and apparently they don't carry them anymore.

Thoughts???

Bringing up the old for the sake of clarity.
I have an 11 Lariat SCREW with OEM camera and display in mirror. Radio is the NON Sony 6 disc HU.

I'm looking to install a Pioneer AVH-X4700BS,
using the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module,
and the iDatalink Connec ADS-HRN(SR)-FOR01 Interface Harness.

So my question, as far as the [backup camera is concerned] Can I just splice into the wires for (pins 8 & 16) with a shielded video cable and RCA jack ? This would plug at (Video in) on the Pioneer.
Then splice the wire running to (pin 9) and connect it to the wire harness for reverse signal ?

I've searched ... I'm from the south, don't be too hard if it's an ignorant question.
Thanks

Umm, what you are saying is logical, but I can not verify that the same wiring will work with the head unit. If I remember correct the 9 pin triggered the monitor in the mirror to come on. The camera was always live so you could try setting up the RCA plug and trying it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
