'09 F150, 5.4l, 64k miles... Driveline and tranny fluids
 

Two weeks ago I purchased the truck in the title... Love the truck so far. I want to make sure I know when certain things have been completed on it, like tranny and driveline fluids. I've been thinking about having a shop do the BG fluids and change them all out and use BG. I've heard a lot of good things about their products. I also wonder what others are using. I am capable and have experience changing all this myself, but want a good quality fluid to use for all these components when I do it. I do drive the truck probably 10-15k a year and do a lot of towing in the summer, pulling a boat.

That information is in the owner's manual. Don't have one -OR- would like a digital, searchable desktop document?BG services aren't necessary for modern-day vehicles. In fact as an example, if your engine is an EcoBoost, chemical intake cleaning/decarboning can kill the turbos and is not recommended by FoMoCo.

In the role of a service advisor, I've used a few of their chemical services usually in the role of stop-gap measures forestalling actual repair.

As for fluids consider Motorcraft or any of the other high-quality, name-brand varieties. For filters (air, oil), Motorcraft or WIX or NAPA GOLD (made by WIX).

If there's a question about which part to chose, consider Motorcraft.

The key for longevity is a religiously followed maintenance schedule.

As for fluids, there seems to be a growing number of people and shops I have heard from who really like their fluids and use them for much more than a stopgap, but more as preventative maintenance and to increase longevity. That said, its possible those shops want to make money. My brother does happen to work at one of those shops and he swears up and down that BG products are phenomenal. Certainly sticking with motorcraft fluids is a possibility. Again, I just want to weight my options.

I do have a manual by the way. The problem when buying used is you don't know what has actually been done, so I want to make sure I start from scratch so I can do it right as long as I own it.
