I have an 09 f150 with about 36000 miles on it and I have that tick. Not sure when it started but I only hear it when I'm sitting idleing at a stoplight or at a drive through window. Hey also does anyone with the 5.4L get a little shimmy when they are idleing at a red light or drive through window. Only happens when I have come to a stop and in drive. Does not do it when in park.

A camshaft sensor wouldnt cause a tick like mine has. It would set a code, but not a tick. I think my dad and mechanic are right....the direct port fuel pump is a noisy SOB on these things.
I mean my noise gets worse whenthe motor warms up to normal operating temp. and it revs louder as you go faster down the road or at idle when you give it more throttle. Idk??? I am an autobody guy. I know alot of mechanics too...but this noise has me worried. And since its under warranty...I havent felt the need to open the hood and look and search around. I figure if the rods are hanging out of the block...maybe the new motor wont be as bad. lol (I hope not...would rather they just fix this issue). Sounds like everybody else is getting the runaround too...and Ford doesnt have a solution or they dont want to warranty all these motors and the tick they have.

mine its more like a knock clatter noise it gets worrying sometimes i do find it strange how when its cold it does not do it and when the engines reached normal operating temp it does i wish ford would do a recall on it i sometimes think my engine is gonna explode with the noise, does anyone know the cost of the vct solenoids

Well the sensor definitely corrected my issue which is, from what I'm reading, identical to a lot of others, but there could be so many causes for it. Anything dealing with the timing or cams can cause a multitude of noises, but I'm no mechanic.
One thing I've found- this is a cast iron block with a whole pile of light weight plastic/ composite/ aluminum parts up top. Basically it's a giant resonating chamber. The smallest noises are going to be amplified.
