I posted this on another site but wanted to get opinions here as well. I need to regear my 5.0 F150 and was wondering which brands are good and which to stay away from.

Second part is that I was thinking about going with 4.56 gears to run 37" tires. My stock ratio is 3.55 and is a dog. It seems like when this subject comes up people say to go 4.88+. The way I figured it is 4.56 with 37s gives me an effective ratio of 3.91 which is between the 3.73 tow package and the 4.10s on the raptor. Going to 4.88 would put me at 4.18 effective.

The dirt around here is not much different than asphalt it's so hard pack. I have no intentions of crawling and I figure if I need more power I can mash the gas pedal. Am I off in my thinking here? I'd like to occasionally hit the road dirt bikes in tow so I don't want to kill my mileage completely.

Anyone running 37s with 4.56 gears?

Anyway, I do not have personal experience with 37's 4.56 combo, but I do have 4.56 and 35's. If it were me, I would definitely go the 4.88 route with 37's. This is strictly my opinion on what I look for performance wise from my trucks. I also had a 78 that I ran 40's on with 4.10's BUT I had the horsepower for that particular setup being a 400 balanced and blueprinted racing engine under the hood.


With all of that said, I doubt you will go wrong with any of the 3 gear companies you asked about. I have heard nothing but good things from Yukon, I personally have the G2's in my current truck and with Motive, I haven't heard anything negative either.

Not just because of the change is tire height...but also the added weight of the new shoes...go big...go 4.88s. With the double overdrives in our 6-speed autos...you will still get acceptable rpms at highway speeds...IMO

Thanks guys. Yeah everyone says go 4.88 minimum so I'm assuming not everyone can be wrong.

I picked up some takeoff Baja T/As with about 50 miles on em. There probably 90-95% tread seeing as how they were test miles on a trophy truck, but heavy is an understatement.

I have 35s and went with 4.56s. No regrets. I wouldn't go any higher than 4.88s with 37s...I'd even consider 5.13s. The lower the better IMO.

Totally agree. You'll regret it so much if you spend $2k on a gear swap but can't even notice it!

I had 4.88 with 38s and it was a little too much, I think 4.56s would have been perfect

I have 4.88:1 G2s and I run 37s. If you are running projects you'll want more gear to help compensate for the significant extra weight.

My .02 - 4.88s minimum.

Definitely going 4.88 and I'm leaning towards Nitro. The reviews all seem to be positive and they sell a complete kit (front/rear/install kits) for $900. There are a few of the gear companies that don't make the 4.88 for 2011+ F150s

I always thought 4.10's were for 35's and 4.56's were for 37's. 4.88 is awfully low. I am running 4.56's now and it just feels stock.
