Default Welded rear diff

Ive got an 1987 f150 RWD, i'm thinking about welding the Rear Diff for better offroad traction,

Its also going to be my winter ice racer, they got local tracks setup on the lakes and let people race. The only thing is that it is my daily driver for now, and the roads around here are pretty snakelike, would it be a bad idea to weld it up? Anyone ever do this? Just want your opinions.

i would honestly just buy a locker...ive seen many welded diffs exploded and ruin the axle if you dont do it right. and your roads may put allitle stress on the axle depending on how windy they are. also sharp corners your tires will chirp.

Locker = good idea
Weld = Bad idea
Put a spool in it for strictly racing

im too broke to buy a locker, or a spool. I was thinking of paying a local welding shop to weld it up real good for cheap.

If you can't afford to put in a spool or locker then you probably can't afford to replace a whole rear end and axle...... I would save up, especially being a dd!
