Should I buy a 4x4 / I hear a lot of issues....
My apologies if this has come up before...
I live in south Louisiana and my property, as well as a lot of the areas I frequent, stay perpetually moist. I have been in a few sticky situations recently that have me considering an upgrade to a model with 4x4.
My truck today is a 2013 F-150 XLT SCrew 5.0 302a package in near mint condition... 15k miles.
Financially, I am in a good spot to make this happen...
That said, I have been following the forums for quite some time and I see a lot of complaints of 4x4 issues. Am I reading too much into that? Should I just buy and rely on the extended warranty? Are the issues a factor of poor maintenance?
I have thought of just opting for the e-locker, but I just don't think it's going to get it alone.
What say you?

With regard to the 4WD system, I have only had one problem on my Fords. The vacuum actuator in the hubs went out on my '05 at like 150k. Was a pretty cheep fix at the dealership. Aside from that my 4x4 systems have been flawless in all my Fords.
Keep in mind, people come to the forum for three reasons, to bitch, to show off, and to hang out. If one's only experience with Fords was solely derived from reading this forum you would think every Ecoboost is about to explode, every 5.0 uses 2 quarts of oil a week, and every 5.4 is about a minute from shooting a spark plug through the hood. Luckily, things like this are very, very rare.
There are 175,083 members on this forum, 13k of which are active. This forum caters to almost 30 years worth of truck models from Ford. Ford sold around 350,000 thousand trucks last year alone.
My point, the issues are rare. And this is coming from one of the people who has had major issues in the past. I say get a 4WD and don't look back. (And get the rear locker too, it's awesome.)

04 vacuum actuators are shot... but then again, lots of plastic, and I suspect the truck was abused before we got it. (I spent 2 days pulling the interior and rug doctoring it. Found everything from a can of dip minus the can, to a bag of doritos minus the bag. And the thing smelled atrocious.) I've a 99 250 that I have to manually lock hubs sometimes. I have a 2000 with no problems and a 90 with no problems. The two I have "issues" with are easily fixed. I'm pretty sure the one isn't a "normal" wear and tear item either. Go for it, never had any significant issues with ford 4x4. Moist soil on Louisiana boy, in a 4x4

No problems yet with my 2013 F150 XLT 4x4. Then again...I just got it yesterday and I have 206 miles on it...haven't even had it in 4 wheel drive yet
