Tpms questions

Hey guys I just got home from the Army and bought a 2014 F150. I recently put some Mickey Thompson 305/65/17 tires on there with some M/T side biters. My tire pressure light has came on. I've searched for a few answers but I haven't found the best solution yet. If I just take my sensor out of my stock wheels, and put them in my new wheels, would that fix the problem? What are my options? Thanks.

First off, Thank you for your service and welcome home.

I assume what you're saying is that your aftermarket wheels do not have sensors in them at all. If that's the case, YES the light will come on and stay on. The truck is "looking" for those sensors.

And yes, you can put the factory sensors in the new wheels (in most cases) or you can get another set of sensors for the new wheels. If you do that, you'll need to "re-learn" those sensors to sync up with the truck. You'll need to do this every time you change wheels/tires. Just swapping your current sensors, and you won't need to do this. Very easy to do, but you need a tool that's about $30 on EBAY. That tool is good to have anyway. Just a matter of a simple procedure and going to each tire with the tool, and pressing a button until the horn beeps.

If you switch tires back and forth seasonally, I'd get the sensors in both sets, (the light on would drive me nuts).

Thanks you for that info. I am from Tennessee. So I do not have to switch tires until they wear out. I can't stand the light being on either or I'd just leave it on lol. Do you know the exact tool name off of ebay?

The directions for use should be in your manual

My after market wheels have the sensors from my 08 F150. Would this sensor be compatiable with my 2014 wheels?

No, those are band sensors that read on a totally different frequency. You will need snap in or clamp in style sensors that read at 315MHz

That's right, but they do make valve stem sensors to replace the banded type. I had them in 2 trucks, made by HUF, from tpmsdirect.com

I just put a piece of black electrical tape over my TPMS light and check my tire pressure every once in a while.
