Default Help with lift

Hi Everyone!

Long time lurker. I had a 2005 F150 and used this forum with great success to fix that truck up and get it back on the road. I bought it from a company I worked for and it had been sitting for a while. That truck has been gone for a while but about a year ago I bought a 2016 brand new off the lot. It had been sitting for over a year and they had just parked it in the back and forgot about it. I got a screaming deal so I went with it and I could not be happier.

Anyway I take my truck everywhere. I live in the Sierras in CA and we go down all the forest service roads and OHV trails in the area (the ones I can make it through) and on the Eastern side (Mono/Mammoth side). My inlaws live in Utah, so we go there once a year as well. Every time I go out, I get to a spot where I wish I had more height and larger tires (still on the stock 20s). My question is, what would be your recommendations for a lift that would perform well? I would like to run a 34ish inch tire.

I am torn between a 4 inch kit and a 2-2.5 inch level. I like that I can run a 17inch tire with a level and I don't have to cut the frame but would the improvement in CV/Tie rod angles and improved approach/breakover/departure angles be worth the 4 inch kit? I have a 6.5ft bed so I am a little longer.

Thanks and I am new to the whole posting thing.

Let me know if you need clarification or you have questions

Ryan

How much do you realistically have to spend? That is the first question and probably the most important.

I can pay up to 3k maybe a little more. I won't need to pay for installation.

It looks like you will be using your truck a lot so I would recommend performance over height.

Our Chase Kit is something I would recommend. This kit includes our Boxed UCA paired with Front and rear King shocks!

This is considered a performance leveling kit.

Here is a picture of our Customers truck with the set up plus 17" Methods and 35" tires!

Well you have the budget to do either. I was in the same boat before deciding 4" zone lift and fox/bds 2.5" coil overs (I need to still order the stuff). Total for this installed will be about $3500. I will have the cash for it around November so will probably wait til black Friday to order and get it down closer to $3000. So that is one route you could take. FYI 4" or 6" is the same price but I need 4" to fit in my garage still.

This is what I am going with only your model year stuff. Cost is just under $3000 list so a little cheaper if you call and ask their best price. You could also upgrade the shocks to the ones with the DSC.

The other route that I was debating was the Halo Lift kit with icon delta joint UCA's. This would be about $1700 (call and you can usually get a little better deal than listed)

I just know that I want higher than 2.5" so the 4" worked best for what my ultimate goals are for my truck. I also like knowing the factory angles are still there for my DD and my approach/departure/breakover angles will be slightly better but actual ground clearance slightly worse compared to a level (With the same exact tire but lift can fit a larger tire which makes up for it). a 34" tire should be able to fit with a level and proper wheel backspace but it might be close if you flex the truck enough.

Thanks for the replies. I am leaning more in the 4 inch direction. I don't know if I would go over 2 inches on a level, and I just wonder if that is enough.

On another note, I may wait until November as well. Seems like I could either get a better setup or lower cost on the set up I decide, if I wait. Plus my work gets crazy from now until thanksgiving anyway so it might be worth the wait.

^^^^^ This will be an excellent setup. I run a very similar setup (BDS 6" with Fox 2.5 Remote Reservoirs non-DSC) and it's awesome. BDS and Zone are both owned by Fox, FYI.

The ride both on and off-road is great.

OP, I know you mentioned wheel size, and yeah, as part of the project / budget, if possible, I'd go down to an 18" wheel. The extra sidewall compared to a 20" wheel will make a difference off-road.

Thanks for the recommendation. I had planned on going down to a 17 inch wheel and run a 285/75/17 if I went with a level. If I go with the 4 inch, I will probably go 18 with a 285/70/18 or similar.

I went with the fox 2.0 front covers, rear shocks, and 35 inch tires. Now I wish I was taller lol. I'm heavily considering a 4" bds kit. My only drawback is the whole cutting the subframe connector ear off. That and im still researching whether I stack the 4in bds on top of the fox 2.0 front struts or how that's gonna work out because I really love the ride with those.

I have the 4" BDS lift with Fox coilovers and shocks.. I absolutely love it. The off-road performance is excellent and it rides tighter and smoother than stock. She sits at about 6'10" after its all said and done.
