Offroad essentials?
I am putting together a list for everything I should have while off-roading. What is recommended I have? I know tow straps and a high lift, 5 gal fuel jugs w/ donkey dick (mil guys know!) and some basic tools. What else? Thanks.

Tow straps or snatch straps? The F150 is a heavy truck, and tow straps won't be much use for more than a very gentle tug. If you need to snatch it for mud or sand, a tow strap won't do the job, a 40K pound strap will just snap clean in two. I have personal experience with this last year:glare:
I tend to wheel alone out of necessity, so my off-road tool list is naturally more extensive than most, and I'll leave out the winch-related stuff, but I carry this: 20' and 30' snatch ropes, extra shackles, wheel chocks, ARB tire deflator, air compressor, tire repair kit, Hi-Lift trail tool kit (shovel, axe, sledge, pick/hoe), as an 11B you should never be without your E-tool anyway:D, MAXTRAX traction ramps, water, Gorilla tape, extra fluids (oil, power steering, gear lube, coolant, etc), 10 feet of chain, tree saver (even without a winch, since a Hi-Lift can kind of work), maybe some other odds and ends, my truck is 7000 miles away right now. Checking out Fourwheeler.com and searching for "trail tools" might give you some additional ideas as well. |

Check these out for a storage concept: http://www.swagoffroad.com/8-Gallon-...Bins_p_35.html and http://www.swagoffroad.com/24-Gallon...ins-_p_37.html
If you can weld you can probably build something similar, and the bed is deep enough to handle the larger one under a tonneau. Keeping the mounting system permanent and being able to just swap the bins around is a simple solution to keeping things organized. |
Good list, perhaps add a couple of tarps and some light rope, zip ties, ratchet strap, ponchos, fire extinguishers, fire starters..

What I take to the woods...
A High Lifter Jack, small shovel, fire ax, sometimes a chainsaw. Several cans of
flat fix, Tow strap, small sledge hammer, cable, (2) chains, assorted tools, 6 pack of bottled water and a can of Cashew nuts. Depending on where I go, I may take a friend who is a top notch mechanic... If I take my buddy, I probably need to take a cooler with some cold Beer... |
