Airing down is a must when offroad period two and 4 wheel drive....it give you a wider footprint to spread the weight over, plus it give the tire the ability to flex over obsticles like rocks and limbs and stuff.....

Yeah air down to about 15 p.s.i., any lower and you run the RISK of running the tire off the wheel. If it's a daily driver and you have the money an electric locker would be the way to go, that way you could switch it back to "open", when you get on the road. I've had a Tacoma, and if you buy one, try to get the V-6 manual transmission, with MANUAL locking hubs. Toyota's make excellent off-road vehicles, as does Jeep.
I've wheeled them all, but for all-round performance, reliability, and comfort....I prefer my Fullsize Bronco, a 94 xlt with the 5.0L.
Again, if you get a Tacoma, try to avoid the "auto-hubs" if possible.
