Like was said earlier, it depends on where you go and what you're into. The best tool you have is the nut behind the wheel.

I'm running some 285/70/17 but I really want to get some 305/70/17s just for that extra width and that little bit of extra height

I am runnin buckshot also. I like and will buy them again. Great tread wear and great traction. I got a 2 wd and been in some deep mud and out of it easily. I have 265/75/16. I want bigger but I only have 2 wd and no Lift kit yet.

ive had maxxis bighorns, im actually plan on getting another set ASAP, Maxxis list them as a A/T but they're more of a MT IMO. I had them on two 2wd trucks and i couldnt stick'em with those tires, they grab on everything, asphalt, mud, sand, clay, i didn't every find something they would grab hold and pull through, and they have excellent life span. the last truck i had them on had wicked alignment issues and they barely showed any signs of wear, had them a little over a year. and that was back when i had an hour commute to work, all highway.
