Morris County NJ Shops for Suspension Lift Install
 

Trying to find a reputable shop that does quality work to install a suspension lift at a reasonable price. I'm looking for a shop that actually tightens everything to spec and takes pride in their work, measuring 3x and cutting once.

I've called several places and talked to some excellent shops but their prices range from $700 up to over $2,000.

Would like to keep it under $800 if possible. I can go 35-40 min away with highway driving for around $700 but I'd like to try and use a shop that was more local within 15-20 min would be preferable. I'm in Northern NJ in Rockaway Borough NJ.

Doing this in my driveway isn't an option, been there done that, I'd rather let a shop handle it for me.

No locals? No recommendations? :(

Only shop I know is Krazy House Customs but they are in Monmouth Junction

Found a couple places within 20 min that seem reputable with nice clean shops and excellent reviews. I have to be comfortable with whomever is doing the install. These couple shocks have Pleasant owners, seem thorough and knowledgeable.

Went to a shop 30 min from me, owners wife wanted me to bring the truck in and the instructions before giving me a price claiming they can absolutely handle suspension lifts. Soon as they read the part about having to cut the subframe they were saying they cannot be held liable for this and had to pass on the job. Talk about wasting my time and gas. All suspension lifts require cutting, another clueless shop owner.

If you want someone to do a thorough job, torque everything to spec, and measure three times before they cut you'll likely have to spend more than $800. Most lift kits quote an install time of 8-10 hours so we'll go with the middle number of 9 hours.

A 9 hour install at $800 is $89/hr, monro muffler charges $110/hr and employees mechanics for less than $10/hr, a shop willing to work for $89/hr is certainly paying their mechanics close to minimum wage. These simply aren't the types of shops that will have calibrated torque wrenches or professional mechanics. Mechanics have to buy their own tools and can easily spend 50K in their first few years, what are the odds the guy making minimum wage will have the right tools?

Master technicians in the tri-state area make over $30/hr and work at shops that charge according, I'd be wary of anyone quoting less than $1100 unless you've personally seen their work, as you've started to find out many people are clueless, and don't know what they're doing. You don't want a cheap mechanic trying to improvise on your truck when he encounters something didn't know to expect.
