Lets see those off-road pictures

I do not mean to diminish your impression of jprevat's incredible sleuthing skillz, but tread patterns do differ and sometimes dramatically among tire makers' models of tires. Therefore, tires can be easily identified by their prints... if you really g33k out on tires, that is.

Without a doubt. I just meant to say that typically we think of traction control as bad for off road all around. but there are a few companies who have utilized it and make it work really well without the need to just spin the tires and rely on momentum. In the future this will probably go a long way to save drive shafts and axles. Ford needs to step it up.
That's so weird.
My EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) does wonders off-road.
I can hear the ABS pump going any time one of the wheels start spinning, and that locks helps transfer power. It's very progressive and intuitive, in that at low throttle there is almost no EDL, and at high throttle the EDL progressively locks more. In the mountains above it works awesome. Gets me through alot of places where everyone else needs a locker. I love my EDL off-road
I've tested it by sitting the rear axle on one jackstand. At idle, the wheel in the air spins. I can give it progressively more gas and it'll rock forward on the jackstand, or back if I let off.
I wonder if the computer just won't let any wheelspin with the differential locked? Or if since 2012 Ford has gotten more conservative with their programming.

The end of this video.
Do the new ones not do this anymore?

It was me. I think there was more going on there because in 4lo, rear locked, and first gear TC is 100% disabled. Took it places I never would've dreamed taking a truck, much less a '16, this past weekend. 4lo, and the rear locked was INCREDIBLE. It was a way different experience offroad than I've done. I've never done anything where I had to worry about wheel spin climbing a hill. I don't know if it was the tires, or the electronics but I only ran into one issue where I had to bump a rock with a bit of speed to get the front tires up. The rear never slipped though.

But unlike a good LSD or locker diff where, when locked, both drive wheels see torque, this *simulated* limited slip via traction control/ABS delivers torque to one tire, then the other; just not at the same time.
We were pressed for time and wanted to get some shooting in, or we'd have gone higher up and tried it over some uneven terrain. Next time.
