Hahaha I am that kind of tire geek. I'm not sure if that's good or bad though.

That's so weird.
My EDL (Electronic Differential Lock) does wonders off-road.
I can hear the ABS pump going any time one of the wheels start spinning, and that locks helps transfer power. It's very progressive and intuitive, in that at low throttle there is almost no EDL, and at high throttle the EDL progressively locks more. In the mountains above it works awesome. Gets me through alot of places where everyone else needs a locker. I love my EDL off-road

I've tested it by sitting the rear axle on one jackstand. At idle, the wheel in the air spins. I can give it progressively more gas and it'll rock forward on the jackstand, or back if I let off.

I wonder if the computer just won't let any wheelspin with the differential locked? Or if since 2012 Ford has gotten more conservative with their programming.

When the 2011s came out, alot of guys did videos of putting one tire on dirt, and one on pavement, and then leaving a darkie on the pavement with an open differential.

The end of this video.

Do the new ones not do this anymore?

dont know. a guy a couple pages back was saying his wouldnt spin the tires in the sand. maybe it had to do with no traction at either tire.

It was me. I think there was more going on there because in 4lo, rear locked, and first gear TC is 100% disabled. Took it places I never would've dreamed taking a truck, much less a '16, this past weekend. 4lo, and the rear locked was INCREDIBLE. It was a way different experience offroad than I've done. I've never done anything where I had to worry about wheel spin climbing a hill. I don't know if it was the tires, or the electronics but I only ran into one issue where I had to bump a rock with a bit of speed to get the front tires up. The rear never slipped though.

They do. We tried it in my standard (open-) diff '16 pictured here right after that photo was taken. My buddy stood off to the side and witnessed it. We did not record it.

But unlike a good LSD or locker diff where, when locked, both drive wheels see torque, this *simulated* limited slip via traction control/ABS delivers torque to one tire, then the other; just not at the same time.

We were pressed for time and wanted to get some shooting in, or we'd have gone higher up and tried it over some uneven terrain. Next time.

Kytann, love seeing the reg cab offroading. My last two were reg cabs, but now have a supercab 17 raptor. Wish ford made them in reg cab, cause I would own one.
