Default Gears for an Eco and where to get them

I have stock 3.73 gear in a 2012 Eco with a 6 inch lift and 35's. What gears do you recomend and where to get them. Most I have read on here are for the 5.0.

You may not want to hear this, but with an ECO, and 3.73's, I wouldn't change a thing for 35" tires. That's an incredibly powerful truck as it sits. You have a ton of low-end torque, a very low 1st gear, and a six-speed. Running that truck with 3.73's is like running a 285 (33") tire with 3.55's. Power shouldn't be an issue.

I'd leave it alone, and put the cash in your pocket.

Nevertheless, if you choose to do the swap anyway, Randy's Ring and Pinion is where I get my stuff. (ringpinion.com)

Also, the axle in the rear is a 9.75" Ford, and the front is a 8.8" Ford. Engine doesn't matter.

I figure as such, most on here have 5.0 and have changed gearing but I think that is becuase of the powerplant setup. I guess I will stay with my tuner idea and recalibrate everything to match and if I get the spare change then I will make the gear swap. If I do swap, most are saying 4.10 or 4.56. Is this ideal?

You have to keep in mind that these newer generation trucks (2009-2014) with the six speed transmission, enable the truck (whatever your setup) to have the same ability as the previous generation trucks, except with the next gear ratio higher. I have a post on this if you do a search.

In other words, a 2009 with 5.4 6 speed and 3.55 gears will tow about the same as a 2008 5.4 4 speed with 3.73 gears. This is because of a lower first gear in the transmission.

Likewise, a 2009+ truck with 6 speed and 3.73's will tow what the previous truck did with 4.10 gears.

If you look at the MAX TOW option, it's 3.73 gears. I ran 35's on an older truck with 3.73's with no issues.

Basically, I'd say 4.56 is way too low for 35's. ( they aren't THAT big), and the difference you'll notice between 3.73's and 4.10's barely justifies the cost, if at all.

You have the most powerful and torquiest engine ever put in a Ford half-ton. That truck will still spin the tires with 35's.

Thanks for the good info. I will take your advice and place the money elsewhere.

What's your advice to run 37's?

37's would warrant the 4.56 gears IMO. 4.10's might be ok, but again, I wouldn't bother to change from 3.73 to 4.10. The only reason I recommended the OP not change gears for 35's is because the price is too high for the benefit. 37's put you in another category.

Agreed! I run 35's on 3.73 and I have just about every performance upgrade available (minus turbo upgrade, NOs, turbo manifolds) and I easily pull 410 rwhp and 525 rwtq. 4.56 on a 35 is too steep. Driver is right, there's not that much of a difference between a 3.73 and a 4.10. Save your money on gears and put it towards a twin turbo upgrade (whenever one comes available!)
