Default Does a front hitch reduce approach angle / ground clearance?

Hi -

I'm thinking of adding a front hitch for occasional winch use (*), but am thinking that would probably reduce ground clearance and approach angle (looking at pictures it seems like they end up at about the bottom of the air dam, which you can otherwise scrape if you need to). Is there any option to add a stout front receiver hitch that does not have these problems?

I have a 2017 XLT with 3.5 EB.

(*) (I don't want a permanent bumper/mount because I don't want to give up the payload capacity (200+ pounds?) for towing).

The only option I've seen is fabrication. A lot of front hitches are designed for several years because all those years have about the same clearance when it comes to underneath the air dam, putting it through the bumper would mean a smaller amount of customers for a given model, and that's not good business sense.

So if you want one, you might need to have someone make one. Personally, yea, I lose 2.5" of clearance at the front, but ultimately if you level your ride, it's not going to matter all that much. Also just stick a skid plate in the front hitch receiver and you can scrape up.

elricfate speaks the truth. That's why I made my own stuff. If you can't do it yourself, make real good friends with someone that works out of his garage.
