Default Biltstein 5100 vs ProComp

I am planning on switching my suspension out and have run into a dilemma.

First and formost I keep hearing to stay far away from any spacer. Next, I have heard that ProComp is a much better shock than Biltstein 5100.

I have had the Biltstein 5100 on another truck and actually liked it. I have no knowledge of ProComp reliability or performance.

Which would you prefer?

I have Pro Comp rear shocks and are happy with them. I have no experience with the Bilstein shocks but read on here a lot of people really like them. The guy at 4 Wheel Parts told me they were pretty much the same shock. The Pro Comp has a 90 day ride satisfaction guarantee

Very few buy ProComp suspension parts here. Bilstein is the crowd favorite.

ProComp is one of those companies that makes and does everything. So, their reputation is "jack of all trades, master of none". I.e., they don't do anything well. They're about the same as Smittybuilt. Cheap, Chinese made garbage.

ProComp does not have a good reputation among real off road enthusiasts.

That said, Bilstein has a good reputation, mostly because they're a cheap and easy suspension level (clips). If you want real suspension, at least talk with Alex at Halo/F150 Lifts.com. You will be SOOOoooo much happier with the a new coilover option than the Bilsteins. My Bilsteins lasted for awhile until I couldn't stand driving a school bus F150. The BOSS suspension makes my truck feel like it should from the factory (but doesn't).

If Halo offered longer rear shocks, I'd be all over it.

Thanks for the responses. I looked at the Boss on Ebay and they were about $1800. I've had the biltstein son a lifted Silverado a few yrs ago and were nice, never had a problem. The only issue now is I don't plan on doing any heavy lift kits due to my gas costs and prices of mud tires that wear out prematurely. Now that I have a family now everything is expensive. 😵.

So I plan to stick with stock tires.

Im stuck trying to find an affordable option for longer rear shocks. I was planning Bilstein for the front, but run an add a leaf and want a 2.0 or 2.25 rear block too to keep rake when towing. (was only planning 1.25 or 2.1" height on billies) but everyones rear shocks are only 1 or 2" longer than stock. I considered BOSS by halo lifts, but 1300$ for the kit vs $375 for Bilsteins.

Stage3 sells BDS Fox shocks for 4" and 6" kits. Only $129 each or another $100 for the upgraded reservoir version.

That's your best bet.

Darn man. That's a good deal but then my truck would look odd with the stock tires. That's why I'm staying at the 2.5" and do the leveling. I've done the 6" lifts on my trucks in the past and right now news tires and the complete kit plus install is a bit hard on the budget right now...
