You can always use a hidden winch mount from a 5.0, you just need to relocate the intercooler up higher. There are kits for this but they are pricey.

I had the need for a winch on my truck and my 20 ft open car trailer. Instead of buying one for each, I bought a front mount receiver for my truck, having a 2 inch receiver welded to my trailer, and I bought a 13,000 lb viper winch (way more winch than I need, but just in case). I went with the viper because it was cheap, but it also came with a winch cover, gloves, and a weight for the cable. It also has a 1 year warranty with a lifetime mechanical warranty. I'm still waiting on the mounting plate receiver, when I get it I will take some pics.

That's a BIG reason to mount it permanently. Another is to protect the winch; both from collision, and theft. If it's easy for YOU to remove, it's probably easy for ANYONE to remove. And if it's sticking out in front of the bumper, it's easy to whack against a tree, boulder, ditch-bank, car, curb, telephone pole, bollard... A permanent mount is also just stronger, and works better due to less electrical resistance.

I have a receiver-mounted Warn winch that I use when I'm solo off-roading or hunting. I love having the option to have it when I need it, I didn't have to make any mods to my rig, and don't have the extra 100lbs for the 90+ % of the time I don't need it. I store mine on the garage floor when not in use, and if I'm off-roading or hunting, I throw it on the rear floor (back seat area with the seat flipped up) of my Supercrew. If I were to get myself in a jam, I just pop it in the receiver and winch myself out.

That's a plan... But I've gotten myself into jams where the bumpers are against obstacles. If the winch wasn't already there, putting it there wasn't an option. That's what happened to this guy, trying to cross a ditch exactly as wide as his truck is long:

I hear ya, but I haul stuff around. A case of wine weighs nearly 50lbs...
