5.0L MPG with 35x20's
 

Hey guys, what type of fuel milage are you guys getting after 6" suspension lift and 35x20's? I work in the oil patch and the lease roads are killer, so a lift and 35's are a must. I'm currently sitting about 17-19 MPG highway depending on how deep my foot goes in it.

Are there any suggestions on programmers that WILL NOT void my factory warranty, as I only have 20K miles. What about the best, fuel efficient, CAI. I've always ran K&N in my sport cars but haven't noticed a difference in the last few trucks I've owned. I've already put on the Flow master and cut off the resonator to give it that beastly 5.0 sound. Just trying to prepare for what's coming with the lift and tires.

What gears do you have?

Factory 3.73's.

My dad's 5.0 with 35's on 18's is getting about 14-16 mpg with stock 3.73 gears. He left everything else completely stock though. Remember, it takes fuel to make power, so don't believe all the hype and "mpg gain" claims you hear from the performance companies that they advertise with their tuners and CAI's

Are you sure you want to go with a 35x20? If you're doing this for more off-road performance you want a little more sidewall. I run 37's on 17" wheels and it is a much better ride on my 2007 FX4.

A couple things to consider:

You are adding weight and unsprung rotating mass, increasing your front profile and depending on the tread pattern you choose - negatively impacting your rolling resistance.

There are some things you can do to offset the mpg impact but you WILL take a hit regardless.

Re gear - 4.10's will put you closer to 'factory mechanical advantage' - ie, about where you are with factory tires and factory gears. This only helps with tire size, doesn't really help WRT weight or rolling resistance. 4.56's would probably help more with all 3 BUT could potentially impact hwy mpg because of a slight increase in rpm's at cruising speed.

More HP/TQ will help move the extra weight more efficiently but typically is diminished because folks end up driving more aggressively thus eliminating any potential gain.

Best, shortest answer:

Gears, headers, intake, tuner and bed cover = about the best performance and mpg you'll achieve when lifting and going with larger/heavier/more aggressive tires.

I have a 2012 f150 5.0L running 6.5" lift with 35x20's and no aftermarket performance currently. I'm getting on the avg. 11MPG. I'm not to heavy nor lite on the foot, just drive about avg.

We have identical trucks! well mine only has a leveling kit and different tires... Question, I've been wanting a 6" lift w/35" tires and was wondering what the cab height is on your truck?
