I agree The thing that sucks about my transfer case is that to go from 4HI to 4LO; you have to step on the brake, put the tranny in nuetral then switch to 4LO. So, your momentum is lost if you go from HI to LO.

my transfer case is the same. I am of the opinion that if you are in a scenario where you need to drop to 4LO because 4HI won't get you where you need to go, then you either should have started out in 4LO, or you are already stuck

Of course, I'm a big fan of slow and steady off-roading.. not much of a pedal to the floor through nastiness kind of guy... though that is why I do more trails and less mud/water.

The nice thing about a manual shift t-case is the lack of a must apply brakes and the neutral crap. I can shift between Hi and Lo at speeds below 3 mph.

You need a manual shift on the fly t-case, linkage and shift lever. You will also need to cut a hole in the floor. Oh, and the boot too.

i have a manual t case. did you do something to yours/order a new one?? putting it in neutral isnt a big deal to me, im just curious how you can do that
