Default 2.5" Leveling Kit vs. 4" Suspension Lift with factory 20's

I apologize if this topic has been beaten to death, but I need some help. I just bought a 2016 F-150 XLT FX4. I'm buying the 20" King Ranch rims tomorrow, so no more 18's. Oh btw, anybody want to buy my old wheels/tires? Less than 1000 miles on them. I can do $600 if you can pick them up (DFW area).

Anyway... I really want to do a Rough Country 4" suspension lift with the factory 20's and 35x12.5x20 Nitto Trail Grapplers. Can I use the factory wheels? From what I'm hearing, these new F150's get real close to that front crash bar so people have trouble with bigger tires. Can I add a quality 1" - 1.5" wheel spacer? Will that help or make things worse? I really can't stand aftermarket wheels.

Or should I just do the 2.5" leveling kit with some 275/60/20 BFGoodrich TA/KO 2's? I read many forums about the leveling kit and am confident I'll be ok there. But I really want the 4" lift with 35's and below is why... that looks amazing!

The black truck is the 4" suspension lift with 35's, the white truck is exactly what mine will look like with the leveling kit (minus my BFG tires). What do you guys think?

Both look nice, but I would go 4". The four will have correct angles for CV and ball joints etc. If you mainly drive on road then a level would be fine. Just depends if you are going to use it hard offroad. Some lift companies will require aftermarket wheels, there are some that will allow factory wheels to.

I definitely want the 4", but it's also a matter of price. $2000 installed for the 4", I can do the leveling kit myself and it's $100. Plus 35's cost about $300 more than the tires I was going to with the leveling it. My truck will be a pavement queen 99% of the time. This is all for looks, but DAMN that 4" lift is soooo nice.

Funny you posted this right now. I'm in the same boat right this second. I "was" going to run the 2.5 leveling kit with 33's on 20x12's. I was dead seat on it but the more I went to custom offsets(web page where people post pictures and their specs of lift, rims, tires, if they rub or not...etc) the more I seen people saying they had rubbing issues with 33's with the 2.5 leveling kit. So then I figured I'd do the 1" body lift with the 2.5 spacer, but then I'd have about $4-600 wrapped up in that just in parts... and it still may rub some. But all while.....the 4" RC actual lift kit I can get right at $900 from my local shop. I'm 32 years old and 10 years ago I would have broke out the saw and had my way cutting away anything that needed cutting.....but Im older and I'm not cutting on a $50k truck unless its some minor plastic trimming. SO...... I'm going with the 4" RC kit and if then it still rubs(I doubt it will with with a true 4" lift lit), I'll add a set of coilovers and crank them up just enough where they won't hit...plus I'll have coilovers haha. Yeah I'm very aware I can get a 6" kit for the same price blah,blah,blah.... but I don't want a 6" kit at all. Its just too much for what I'm trying to do personally. After hours upon hours of searching.... a 4" with 33's on 12 wides is exactly what I'm looking for and it will save the headaches of any chances of rubbing. IMO nothing is more embarrassing then pulling into somewhere with a very expensive truck sounding like your tire is trying to rip your finder off . I ordered my wheels and tires last week....and I'm going to drop in and order my lift this week sometime. Good luck with your decision.

Its funny because I just need a inspection next month... and the tires on my truck are worn where they probably won't pass and thats what led to all of this. The biggest hurdle was explaining to the wife why my truck needed $5k worth of repairs on a 14' truck we bought new just to get a $15 state inspection

Hahaha I could easily convince myself that my truck "needs" $5k worth of suspension upgrades to pass the $15 state inspection.

I went to buy those 20" King Ranch rims Saturday and they were scratched and gouged to hell. "Some small blemishes" my ***. The only other set on craigslist is $1300 with tires, should have around 50% tread left. I can't stomach spending $1300 on rims and tires, knowing I'll be buying new tires very shortly. I wish I could just love my truck completely stock and save money, but I can't haha.

I took my grandpa steps off last night (pic below), looks sooo much better. The front air dam is coming off this weekend, then either a leveling kit or lift kit is next. Just don't know which or when.

I'm interested in this as well, as I may be buying a new 2016 XLT 4x4.

Do the level. If its not enough then do the 4 inch lift and you can sell the level and be out like $20 and some time lol

That's very true... only problem with that is I'll buy new 33's with the leveling kit. I want the BFGoodrich 275/65/20 KO 2's, assuming I can get the King Ranch wheels I want. If I buy the 4" lift, I'd want 35's. So my biggest concern is buying brand new 33's for the leveling kit, then turning around and buying 35's for the lift kit. Man, if there's anybody who can just throw money away, it's definitely me haha.

Go with 34"s then lol I clear 34.6" Trail Grapplers (no trimming, no rub whatsoever) with a level and that would certainly look good under a 4" lift too

Good point haha... would I be ok if I eventually did the 4" lift with 285/65/20's? I have the FX4 with 3.31 gears, I've heard you'd want 3.73's. I don't tow very often, or really ever. This is all purely for looks. I just don't want to do any damage to the truck because I "only" have 3.31 gears.
