Default Tire Cupping?

This may be a dumb question, but I know nothing about cupping. I have the opportunity to get a set of 33x12.50r20 Cooper STT for a great deal with 70% tread BUT one tire has small cupping on the outside. Is this dangerous or is this something I should just walk away from? Will it even back out eventually?

Thanks for any help and info.

Once a tire is cupped it will only get worse.. cupping is caused normally by a bad strut or shock. Maybe you could find a replacement for that 1 tire.

No, that is not dangerous. All tires cup, that is why you rotate them. Put that tire in the back to start and rotate them every oil change. I’ve noticed that it helps to rotate them like the book says, cross the fronts to the back and the backs come forward. Most shops just switch the front and backs on the same side. If you have a lot of noise when you rotate it to the front then I would look into replacing it. Also make sure your truck is aligned to keep cupping to a minimum.

I know now a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but I get my truck aligned once or twice a year and my tires will be slightly cupped after 5000 miles. But that’s just my $.02.

Most tire cupping on oversized tires is caused by one of two things:
1. Tire is too wide for the rim width.
2. Over inflation
As mentioned earlier, bad shocks and struts are the primary cause on older vehicles.
