Question HELP -- Choosing tires

I'm having problems picking out tires.

I have a 2012 XLT 4x4 that I'm putting Bilstein 5100 2" leveling shocks on, and 2013 OEM SVT Raptor 17" wheels....

I want some wider tires, maybe a tad of overhang from fenders, but nothing crazy like the 315s would deliver..

I've been looking at the Nitto Trail Grapplers, but they're 80lbs each! I have concerns with that. I'd rather not loose more than 1 mpg or so... and I've heard people loose around 2-3 with them.

So, I'm looking for something in 295/70R17 - 305/70R17 (I'd consider 285/70R17, but I would probably want to put on some 6mm wheel spacers then, which I'm trying to avoid)

I've also been looking at the 295mm Cooper Discoverer STT, and the 285mm Goodyear DuraTrac but I can't find enough data to make a solid decision.

The Terra Grappler would also be an option, but I haven't found a reliable source for the weight on those....

Thoughts, Opinions? Anything else I should be looking at?

Thanks again for your help!!

I have looked at them, but initially didn't add them to the list as I wasn't a huge fan of how the looked compared to the STT -- can you give me any more info that might persuade me to take a longer look at the S/T Maxx??

Thanks!

I would also love it if people would post photos of their trucks with 285-315mm wide tires (11.2-12.5 inches)-- preferably a side shot where I can see how far they stick out from the side of the truck. Please also include the offset of your wheels so I can get a good idea of how they'd look!

The 305 is gonna be a lot tighter fit on a 2" level if it will fit I say go with those. I would also reccomend staying away from the 295/70/17 vs the 285. The 285 is way more common of a size and is going to be cheaper than the 295 because it's kinda odd. You wouldn't be able to notice the difference in width either so not worth the extra cost. I say go with either the 285 or 305.

As for tires I love my coopers and I love my DuraTracs. I think they are both great tires. I won't comment on noise and ride because I'm running two different sizes on the Cooper vs. Goodyear so it's not a fair comparison. But I am very happy with both.

Since I wasn't able to find Bilstein shocks, I'm actually going with a 2.5" level... I've seen lots of folks on here running 315/70R17's with 2-2.5" leveling kits.. So, I'm half pondering that now....

Hows the wear comparison for you between the two? How about the handling? I'm currently leaning toward the Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx as recommended above...

I can't comment on the wear as of yet but I'm sure the DuraTrac will last much longer than the STT. I got 50k miles out of my DuraTracs and had them for 5 years. The handling hasn't really changed since I still have a 33" tall tire it's just a lot wider with the Cooper. The Cooper rides like a cloud in comparison but that's likely the width and it's much softer.

Thanks for your input!! The Duratracs are tempting, the surveys on TireRack's website look great!

Currently, I'm leaning towards the Cooper S/T Maxx right now. I just keep reading more and more good things about them!

Probably going to go with the 315/70r17s -- I think they should fit nicely.

Just recently purchased some duratracs. The shop said they have been happy with the wear of them from what they have seen.
