BFG T/A KO2 or Nitto Terra Grappler G2

I think I've narrowed it down to what I want. City driving about 95% of the time and going with 275/65/20 but I want to hear from the owners of both.
The BFG are about $145 more expensive for all 4 tires.

What's you're personal opinion them?
Would you switch to the other if you could start over?
How's the ride comfort and noise level?

Not interested in any others. thanks.

Love my Terra Grappler G2's. We run the BFG's on my dad's 03. The BFG's do better in slippery situations and whatnot, but are pretty noisy next to my Terra Grapplers. My Terra Grappler's are just about dead quiet on the highway. grip well in snow and ice. Not that you would need it, living in South Texas...

After doing nearly 10k miles on my Terra Grapplers, and putting about 8k with the BFG's on my dads truck with me behind the wheel last year, I'd take the Terra Grapplers over the BFG's for a general use tire any day of the week.

bign1497 09-07-2015 07:13 PM

I'll bet the KO 's will last longer.

flyinpig14 09-08-2015 10:30 AM

The KO2's look way better!

CBF150XLT 09-23-2015 12:33 PM

Love my KO2's. They look amazing (I get complements on them all the time) and I personally think they ride great. Not too noisy at all.

Jeriko 10-01-2015 01:57 PM

KO2's is my vote. They work well, bite on the trails, overall my favourite A/T tire. And it's winter rated as well. Another you could consider is Duratrac. Pretty close between the two in my experience.

karlmag 10-04-2015 10:51 AM

Another vote for KO2's when it comes to ride quality and traction. The Toyo open country AT2's are also good on most kinds of terrain.

BassAckwards 10-05-2015 07:27 PM

My vote would go to the Nitto strictly because of the mileage warranty so if they don't last you can expect some credit back provided you properly maintained and rotated them. They definitely aren't as aggressive as the BFG but from what you described these would fit you better IMO.

I saw a comment betting the BFG would last longer, while it is possible you are SOL if they only last 20k miles. I've had customers come in with the KO2s and the back tires were worn out after 20k miles and they get to bitching at me until I ask why they never rotated them. It would've got them at least another 10k miles in that situation but now they have payed several hundred dollars extra for the BFG over the Nitto and Michelin is not going to give them any credit back because there is no warranty.

I've had this debate with several customers and they seem to feel better with having the mileage warranty for the extra peace of mind.

gcan 10-05-2015 09:44 PM

I think part of whats driving this is more people have experience with the BFG's

I have had BFG's on another truck and current have G2's on my new screw and could not be happier with the ride quality or quite ride of the G2's. I believe the G2's are also lighter which is normally a plus.
I would not trade my G2's

yanki01 10-05-2015 11:31 PM

I thought they were both about the same in weight?

bign1497 10-05-2015 11:41 PM

Don't the BFG's come on the Raptor? I think that would speak volumes for the Goodriches.

RedAggie03 10-07-2015 03:44 PM

I don't want to throw a wrench in your plans, but I tried the 275/65-R20 KO2's on my stock suspension truck and while they fit and did not rub - I *PERSONALLY* thought they looked funny. They're pretty tall for how wide they are, the ratio looked off. The other issue is the 65 series is a E load (10-ply) where the 60 is a D load (8-ply) so it's not as stiff/rough riding.

I ended up returning the 275/65-R20's and getting the 275/60-R20's and I instantly liked the look better. IF I wanted bigger, I'd do a level and the 285/65-R20's. I also found that the 65 series lifted the truck enough that it BARELY fit in my garages at work and home where the 60 series gave me enough room that I feel a bit more comfortable. Now I can do a mild level when the 5100's come out for the 2014+'s and still fit in garages.

do you have pics of both 275/65 & 275/60?

PARIAH 10-16-2015 08:18 AM

I went with the KO2's. While the Nitto's are very good the extra sidewall protection and traction provided by the KO2's set it far above the Grappler.

Tire size question on these tires

My truck is the platinum, so it has the 275/55R20 stock. I'd like to fill up the wheel well a bit and have a better look and these tires are beautifil How would you do it? Get new rims? Use stock an go up to285/55R20? This option is over 100$/tire it seems. Would the modest bump up in size look noticeably better on the stock rims? Would it be a big change in terms of noise, mileage loss, etc? I drive primarily on street and only go off road about 15-20/year to drop off dirtbikes - so it is not really necessary to have a crazy off road tire. Thanks

Both are great tires and have their pro's and cons. I went with the G2 because they had XL sizes which were more like a P rated tire and lighter. I didnt want to take a huge hit in the weight department, or ride quality.

I think they both look really good and either one is a good choice, I just didnt need an LT tire and I like to keep my unsprung weight to a minimum.

In July, 2015, I purchased a set of Terra Grappler G2 275/65/R20, I had zero complaints with these tires until we had measurable snow on the pavement. With my truck in four wheel high, I found that steering was exceptionally compromised when driving in a residential area with curved streets at speeds around 10 mph. With my steering wheel turned left or right, my truck wanted to go forward. My assumption is that the tread design is such that the snow packs into the tread and does not eject. With only 3500 miles on these tires, I went back to Discount Tires on Monday and traded them in for a set of BFG All Terrain T/A KO2 275/65R20 and the performance on snowy pavement is greatly improved. As an FYI, Discount Tire gave me a 100% refund on the G2's, then I paid $271 each for the KO2's plus taxes. Life is good!

I went with the G2's and I have no complaints. I will rarely if ever drive in snow, so this is mostly for highway, light off road and going to the beach/camping.

Would highly recommend the KO2's. Ride comfort is great and virtually no noise. Nice aggressive sidewall tread and supposed to be improved rubber over the KO's which ive heard great things about

WXman 03-09-2016 06:07 PM

I voted for the BFG, but not because it's the best AT tire available. Rather, because the Nitto is the only AT tire currently on the market that I've heard nothing but complaints about from owners. Poor snow and rain traction, poor braking traction, irregular wear, road noise, etc. Looking at the tread pattern, it's a bit surprising to me. But across all the Ford, Nissan, and Jeep forums I've been a part of over the last 15 years I've seen a ton of complaints. Regardless of which tire a guy buys, he always will post a positive review. It's a psychological thing I guess. Justifying your purchase. But with the Nitto, I've seen so many people actually admit that they aren't happy with them. It's odd.

Anyway, so given these two choices only, I'd go BFG.

Having said that, given the choice of ALL available AT tires there are dozens that I'd buy before either of these. Much better traction and lower prices are easy to come by. Just some that come to mind: Cooper AT3, Toyo AT2, Falken A/T3W, Goodyear Duratrac, Cooper ST Maxx, etc. etc.

tnts150 03-09-2016 09:33 PM

BFG A/T KO2’s is my tire. The first upgrade I made on my 2015 FX4 was to install a set of 275/65R18 BFG KO2 A/T’s. They are quiet, handle well in sand and rocks and deliver a smooth ride on the highway. This is my 3rd set, I had 315’s on my Raptor and didn’t start to notice any road noise until about 40,000 miles. I sold the truck at 43,000 miles and they still had had another 10,000+ miles of tread left. I also had 245’s on my GMC Duramax. Great tire you won’t be disappointed. Four Wheeler Mag reviewed them in their Nov. 2015 issue and only had good comments on them. I paid $873 for the set.

mark waller 03-18-2016 09:35 AM

Went with the BFG 18" stock size. I wanted the E load for towing. Had them on a prior Tundra and they held up well.

BMR33 03-18-2016 11:57 PM

BFG KO2s for me. 285/65/18r, I just love the aggressive look of the tire and I haven't noticed much noise at all so far, although I just got them not long ago.

Still somewhat new to the truck world here.. inherited my dad's 2008 F150 King Ranch with a 4" lift and huge tires and really enjoyed driving it so traded it in along with my 2013 Subaru Impreza Wagon towards a 2013 F150 FX4 and absolutely love it. When I purchased it there were Pirelli Scorpion tires on it 275/55/R20 and they are now in need of replacement. I keep going back and forth on the G2 and KO2's not sure which to go with. I live in NW Arkansas so I do see rain/snow/gravel/etc. Wondering if I should opt for the same size tire as the Pirellis or if I should change for any reason? I just sat at a stop light tonight and looked over my shoulder to see a similar FX4 with same 20" ford wheels with Nitto tires but pretty sure they read like 295/60/R20? Any help & guidance would be greatly appreciated :)

For that mix of weather, you'll probably enjoy the KO2s over the G2.
If you didn't want to add a leveling kit, then you could go up one size in height to the 275/60/20 KO2 which is a LT D-rated tire. You'll likely need a leveling kit for the taller 275/65/20 (I run them and love them) or the taller and barely wider 285/65/20.

BFG isn't releasing anything comparable to a 295/60/20 at this moment, so you are a bit limited in width with a 20" wheel.

Regardless, the KO2 is hard to beat.

JP5.0 04-06-2016 07:27 PM

you will love the K02's. Great tire, great road manners, and good off-road capabilities. Wear ratings are great, and for all intents and purposes, should do everything you need it to do! Great choice.

General Grabber AT2, pretty close to the KO2

I debated very much about the same exact thing when I bought my last set of tires. Ultimately I went the direction of the KO2, but in the last minute the tire tech I was working through suggested the General Grabber AT2. It's nearly the same exact tread pattern as the KO2, and way more cost effective. I put a set of those on my jeep, and they're friggin awesome. Super quiet on the highway, and grip like a sonofabetch. Check em out:

Looks slick! I've been told leveling isn't absolutely necessary with the 275/60/20 so i'm going to go with this size and no level for now. These tires aren't huge or anything but they won't affect my ability to install the wheel well liners will they? Just checking before I order the tires... :)

i've seen quite a few with no level riding these size tires too. should be no issue with them. they shouldn't you should have plenty of room to install the liners.

if you have a discount tire, they price matched for me from 4 wheel parts. came out to $230.49/each. saved about $100 for all 4.

I was considering picking these up off of Amazon... no tax and free shipping. Still undecided.

check if you have a local shop that will price match along with installing them. discount has their warranty and free rotations and balance.

Discount Tire price matched 4Wheel, I went ahead and got the full lifetime warranty for these etc. $1278 out the door when all is said and done. Yikes.

Any chance someone can post pictures of KO2's or G2's in 275/70/18 ? My stock tire is 275/65/18, but seem like I can go up a tire size without a level from what I've been reading on here especially since mine is 4x4 ?

you'll be fine with no level. it's just over 1" taller tire than what you have.

mine are at 45, feel's good there.

MCDavis 04-19-2016 11:11 AM

45 cold in mine also. Seems to be wearing well with about 2500 miles on them. Will rotate them early tomorrow in conjunction with an oil change.

Splattered 04-19-2016 07:24 PM

When I measured at the station this morning I kept getting 36 psi on each tire...??? Well I upped them to 45 and they feel SO much better now. Will probably stick with this also and see how they wear. Upon doing a little more reading on this site i'm seeing ranges from 40-50.

tnfan47 04-22-2016 09:25 AM

Anyone had any issues with the KO2s since they don't have a mileage warranty? Obviously would like to get the KO2s, but them not having a mileage warranty I'm skeptical. Didn't know if this has been an issue or not. I tried to search, but haven't seen this being discussed.

No concerns here. Absolutely great tire with good on-road manners, especially in the wet, and enough meat on it to tackle some off-road duty.

I have almost 3k miles on mine and they show no visible wear, but I have not measured them.

I shared your concerns so I picked them up at Discount Tire and paid a little extra per tire for their lifetime warranty :)

BF Goodrich KO2 275/60R20 w/ Fuel Beast +20 offset

I just had my rims I purchased last Fall mounted on my truck with the BFG KO2 275/60R20. I had to trim the mud flaps, but now there is just under a 1/4" clearance. I don't have any spacers, blocks or air bags. But I might install them in time. For now, I'm going to try it out like the pictures.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...8ea6617f4d.jpg

My teenage boys, 18/19 yrs old and their buddies recommended me going with this set. I just had it done on 4-22-16, so I don't have a lot of experience yet, but I have done a considerable amount of research prior to the purchases. So far, I am very happy with the look, ride, feel, sound, etc. They're currently set at 35PSI, but I may raise them 5PSI at a time until I find the sweet spot. I added two before pictures at the end so people can see the comparison. Hope this helps fellow researchers!
Cheers,
Luke

I am riding on the 275/60/20 KO2s which are 8 ply tires thaqt weigh 55 lbs each.
Im moving to the Nitto G2 275/60/20 4 ply XL at 41 lbs weight per tire, I really dont haul heavy loads and plan on using the tires for 80% highway city driving and 20% offroad.
i notice some vibration with the KO2s. If you pressure them up to 45 psig the ride whether offroad or on highway is harsh
i can feel the extra weight of the tires compared to the P rated. If you pressure the KO2 to 36 psig it does feel less harsh less vibration but you still feel more of the imperfections in the road. thats my two cents...due what satisfies u

Very nice truck! I've got myself a 2016 platinum. I would recommend a dual valve catch can. I've got 6000 miles on mine and have already emptied an entire 17 oz. water bottle of dirty oil from the dirty side. And a little bit from the clean side can as well. I've got the UPR, all plug and play, comes with the sensor you will remove, and the quick connects, easy install. Build quality of the cans are the best out there. Protect that motor!

I have the BFG's KO2 on my Ranger( level II 31x10.5x15), with 20 000 kms or 12 428 miles. They are quite on the highway, good grip on wet roads and good wear. I have no complaints. I am thinking about putting them on my new 2016 screw, but time and budget will tell.

The few BFGs Ive ran, they seemed to get loud once they got around 50-60% tread life and wet traction suffered dramatically.

Just had 275/60/20 ko2s installed with Hardrock crusher wheels. Love the look but have not been able to get a vibration figured out. Was very noticeable at first. I then installed the correct size hub centric rings that did not come with the wheel that I was told were needed and would fix it. Still slight vibration. I have heard these tires can be finicky to balance and might need road force or could it be the wheels? Any ideas?

so bumping my thread. 4yrs later and i'll need new tires by the end of the year. they wore ok, not as even as i'd like despite rotating often. they got slick over the last year during the rain. I think my next set i'll go with the Nitto's and at 285/65/20 for a little bigger lift.
