Can anyone comment as to how much better a shallow mount 10in sub will sound compared to the kicker hideaway?

The hideaway seems very simple to install but if the 10in shallow mount sounds much better I'd rather put the time and money into it.

Depends on the 10" sm sub you select. Some sound ok, while others sound great. Also, depends if you use a box the right size or not and sealed or ported.

A good sm 10" sub, will kill the hideaway. Just depends on your preference and budget!

Money isn't really an issue since I plan on installing it myself. I was leaning towards the Kenwood KFCXW-1000F eXcelon 10 inch Shallow Subwoofer in the PIONEER UD-SW250T 10" Frontfiring Enclosure. Still not sure which amp. Recommendation?

What would you go with? JL looks pretty good also... I am coming from one 12in in an suv so I definitely want to feel the bass.

I want it to fit behind the seat and still allow the seat to fold up. I leave my rear seat always folded up because I take my dog to work with me everyday.

JL 10tw3, or the 12tw3 will be the best sm sub option. I have the Alpine MRV-500w mono amp, I really like it. The JL 10w3, will fit that pioneer box you mention.

Got for 119.99 on amazon, its 300w @ 4ohms, and 500w @ 2ohms. I really like that using the hi level inputs, will also turn the amp on. So no need to use a remote turn on wire, or rcas when using the hi level input. I used the purple + & green - wires from the oem sub harness, for signal, to the alpines hi level input wire harness.

Thanks for the help!

I eneded up going with the Pioneer TSSWX2502 because amazon warehouse had it for $80 shipped. I was going to buy the box anyway and it was going to cost more than that for just the box so I will give the sub a try.

Would you still recommend the Alpine MRV 500V?

I have a kicker ZX250.2 and an RF2002 laying around. Would any of these be any good to provide power?

I will also need the WPT-1212 harness correct? Using this I will not need to tap into the wires in the side pillars right?

As long as the old amp meets the power requirement of the pioneer sub youll be good. If the amp is over 200w, you cant use the wpt1212, its mainly for amps 150w or less.

Youll need a 8 awg or 4 awg amp wiring kit. If your amp has auto power sensing hi level inputs, youll only need to reun the purple and green wires, from the oem sub harness. For music signal, and remote turn on. Otherwise, youll need a pac, to tap into the rear speakers for music signal and so on.

Yes Id reccommend the Alpine, if your current amps wont work well with the new Pioneer.

Hey guys just put mine in. Not positive if I have my wiring from the factory harness correct. My amp is a Pioneer GM-D8601 and it came with rca cables with 4 wires.

Factory harness
Violet +
Green -

Rca
Red tip has red and black
White tip has white and black

Mine are connect by twisting the two - Black wires together from the Rca's together, and connecting them to the Green-, from the oem sub harness. Then Twisting the Red & White + wires together, on the Rca and connecting them to the Purple +, from the oem sub harness.

Is this correct?

Then I am not sure if I have the wires from the sub box to the output correct. I have them wire to the +/- next to one another. But should they be wired to the far + and far -. I believe this would create a bridge to allow full power to the single sub.

The setup is working but I am just not sure if this is the optimal way. I have 4ga wire running to the battery and have activated the supercrew 7 speaker with subwoofer configuration and external aux. Subwoofer

I have also found that unplugging the white rca cable from the amps makes it hit much harder but I don't believe it sounds as good.

I have that same Pioneer Amp that I installed a few weeks ago.

I hooked up each wire for the RCA's individually to the subwoofer harness in the truck. I used posi-taps for each wire coming from the harness to each wire on the RCA cables.

Except you had the oem sony sub, he did not. So Brett, only has 1 + & 1- wire to use, on his oem sub harness.

Thanks for clarifying this. My truck is an XLT with no stock subwoofer. With the help of Toddman I was able to get this far.

Originally we had it wired by hooking up the Purple +, to the Red wire on the Red connector. Then the Green -, to the Black wire coming from the White connector. This turned on the amp but the sub would barely move at all.

I wonder if using the 1212 harness would yield better results even though i am not getting power from it?
