I just got my new 2013 XLT with the MyFord Sync 4.2" and love everything except for the sound system and was excited about what I was going to do to upgrade it until I started looking at these forums. I found out quickly just like the rest of you have that there are limited options for us with the MyFord/My Ford Touch systems. There seems to be tons of threads about what to do so I thought I'd try and get it all in one thread.

What are have you done or are planning to do with your sound system? wait for the advent system (which doesn't seem like its coming)? use the metra or scosche dash kit? put in the kicker upgrade? or do your very own custom install?

Personally I'm torn between:

System 1: Kicker Soundgate Powerstage w/4 kicker coax speakers
Dash: Factory
Advantages: cheaper, easier install and requires no modifications to the truck

or

System 2:
Sub: JL Audio W3v3 8" Microsub
Speakers: Kicker KS68 coaxials rear, Kicker 40CSS684 component front
Amp: JL Audio XD700/5
LOC: Audiocontrol LC2i
Dash: Factory
Advantages: better sound quality, expandable, changeable, and tweak able

Full custom install. Im going to tap into the front speaker wires at the kickpanels, run those back to a processor, either an audiocontrol EQL/EQX (13 band equalizer with speaker level inputs). I have a kenwood sub amp and a MTX blue thunder 2 channel from previous installs. Ill be getting a set of JBL P660c components for the front doors and building a center console enclosure for my Boston SPG-555 sub, also from a previous vehicle

Custom install for my 13 XLT.
Factory 4.2 Sync Head unit > Rockford Fosgate 360.3 DSP > JL Audio HD 900/5 active to JL Audio C5 Components in factory door and a-pillar locations > Fox acoustics dual 10" vented enclosure loaded with Sundown Audio E-Series dual 4ohm subs. I am using a set of Hertz Energy coaxials in the rear doors power by the rear head unit outputs. All Knukonceptz wiring, power distribution and ground distribution blocks. RAAMmat sound deadner

Future upgrades will include a second JL Audio HD 900/5, one dedicated to the left, one right. Two Stereo Integrty BM mkIV 12" shallow subs in a custom enclosure. I am undecided on how I plan to attack the front stage. The cheaper route would be to pick up a set of the JL Audio C5 4" midrange drivers to complete give me a 3 way front but who knows.

I'm keeping the Factory 4.2 Head.

In the near term, I've got 4 Infinity Reference 6832cf speakers on the way and will swap them out for the factory speakers. From my own browsing of this forum, I know an amp & sub are probably needed to round out this modest upgrade so I'll probably do that once I figure out what the hell I'm doing.

I'd certainly like a bigger screen + nav like what could be offered through Advent but that's a lot of money and still vaporware at this point. Mostly, I'd just like to enjoy what I have a little more but not call attention to it.

I had the stock Sony system and while it sounded decent, it wasn't up to par with what I wanted. I didn't want to go as far as I did on my 2011 truck so I kept it pretty simple this time.

- Stock MFT head unit left alone
- Infinity Reference 6832cf in all four doors (factory tweeters still left in place and being used)
- Infinity speakers and tweeters all being powered by the factory amp
- Shallow mount Kicker CVT12 single 4ohm
- Box built for sub and amp mount to go on either side of back seat. Rodneys Custom Boxes on Ebay builds them. I've had 4 of them now and they are all fantastic.
- MBQuart 400watt RMS x1 @ 4ohm
- AudioControl Lc2i getting signal from factory subwoofer wires

Sounds similar to what I want to do. I've done the big sound system before and whether I'm to lazy or don't want to spend the money I'd like to go a little more low key this time. How much difference do you notice from the stock sony system?

I replaced all 4 speakers with Polk Audio db571 and may install an amp later but as soon as the weather warms up and free time, since we seem to be stuck with this radio I'm going to reroute the video wires from the back up cam down from the rear view mirror to the 4.2" screen. I already have all the research done and it only requires moving one wire to a different pin in the connector and putting the video + - wires into the same connector.

Cost $0.00 other than what your time is worth.

I will make a detailed "How to" once I have it complete and tested. I am 99.99% certain it will work.

Many many times better than the stock Sony. The factory amp, to me, can adequately power the door speakers and tweeters to my liking. Coupled with the shallow 12 and a decent amp matched to it and it sounds really good for what I want.

In my 2011 I sound deadened most of the truck, cut up the back foam panel, components in all four doors, amps, processors, etc etc etc. Thankfully I have most of those parts and they will go in the Supra in the garage so for this truck I just wanted some clean sound and a decent bass thump to go with it.

In my '13 i kept the factory 4.2"
LOC on the rear channel for 2 amps (alpine mono and eclipse 4ch bridged)
Image Dynamic 6.5" component set in front doors
Dual Sundown E8v2's in a ported box under rear seat.

Love this setup. The ID's aren't too bright/harsh and the 8's fill the low end alot better than some may think, especially with the ported box.

I have since developed a rattle from my rear view mirror. Has anyone found a solution to this? Maybe a rubber adhesive padding to run along the inside of the mirror for better stabilitiy?

2013 XLT with Sync no nav. I changed the speakers, added an amp and sub and it sounds great even with the stock head unit.
