I'm using polk db571's. I installed them in both front doors and both back doors. They work really well, good sound. Clear, never distorted.

Default JBL MS-62C 6-1/2" 2-Way MS Series Component

I installed JBL MS-62c 6 1/2" in all four doors. I have a JL Audio 320x4 amp running them. They're very crisp and clean. The sound is like night and day from the stock system. You would need to buy or make a bracket for 6 1/2 speakers for the doors but I believe they sound much better than any oval speaker. I also had a friend run all new speaker wire to the speakers from the amp (a larger gauge wire) to help give them enough juice.

Default Dad the stereo in the F150 sucks!

My son kept saying this to me but i just listen to talk radio.

Once I started to listen to music I realised he is right. My truck is 2010 F150 XLT. Enough said. So almost 3 years later I bought some 2 way kicker replacement speakers for the front.
I see here, some folks say how bad the radio is in this truck is and I think I figured it out.
The kicker replacement speakers they are great, efficient and the music has presence and definition in the cab. Remarkable, I can't believe just speakers can do this especially for $40. They can't, even if they are really good.
After studying the OEM speakers you see they are covered with plastic grill. It has small holes and is thick ( I removed it from one driver) Why do you need this? It serves no purpose but to limit the sound output.
My conclusion is.. this cover is a baffle... nothing more, it is there to muffle sound.
It Must be for upsell to more expensive stereos. These speakers kill he highs and limits the bass. When new speakers are placed, the sound comparision is remarkable and much louder maybe 3db (or at least double). Bass is much more improved.
This reveals the fact that the Ford the head unit is pretty good. So with good speakers or any type without a baffle the sound would result in improved performance over all.
I don't want to go into what is good or not but if you change speakers (Good) and add correct sub (power) you would have a thumper system for low cost.
My Guess is that upgraded systems , are speakers only, with sub nothing more. Of course I could be wrong but I bet I could build a cheap system that would rival the best Ford has to offer using the standard head, new speakers and high power sub for much less than the upgrade cost.
It is called Marketing.
What do you folks think?
Joe

This sounds like a great alternative to a high cost retrofit of the truck. May I ask the model of the speakers you purchased? I am interested to throw a set in myself as I feel there is more to desire when I decide to listen to some tunes!

I am looking into replacing my speakers in the near future. I just want to replace the speakers, and do nothing else. Just want a little upgrade for a clearer sound. I have a '12 XLT...is there any more to basically pulling off the door panels, taking out the old speakers and plugging in the new ones? I replaced speakers on my old sonoma and that was all that was needed. I plan on going thru Crutchfield, unless I see cheaper prices on the speakers I want. I will probably stick with Pioneer just from prior success

To all that are running coaxial speakers in the doors...

Are you still running the factory tweeters in the A-pillars? I want to replace my door speakers and run the Alpine KTP-445 amp to them. I am just not sure what to do with the factory tweeters. I am pretty sure the amp would be too much power for the factory tweets. But If I replace them AND have coaxials in the door, that's going to be a lot of freaking tweeters/highs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
