Default Upgrading speakers while keeping the stock HU

I'm looking to replace the stock speakers in my 2010 XLT S Cab while keeping the stock head unit.
I'm not looking for top notch sound, a little better than what it is now being fully stock.

I'm trying to figure out what a good brand/model of speakers would be that will sound good with the stock HU. Does anyone have any suggestions which speakers sounds good / are compatible with a stock HU?

Crutchfield is a good starting point. Enter your truck info. It will tell you what fits and has reviews.

Id say go with morel... you get the amazing sound quality for the low price... the ones ill recommend to you are the tempo coax 5X7's 1 set of these will run you 200 - 250$ and will perform better than speakers priced at 400 a set. Morel's Focus is quality withough breaking the bank. They do have high end stuff but for what youve described this is what you are looking for.

I wouldn't burn 250 bucks on speakers if you just plan to run them off the head unit. Head unit power is only about 4-8w RMS per channel, so you need something really efficient. Polk dB series is a good option for that.

If you get the high dollar speakers you will do them no justice without some sound dampening and proper amplification. Morel's can sound fantastic when implemented properly.

I installed these INFINITY KAPPA 682.9cf 6"x8" SPEAKERS, with my stock HU/No AMP the other day and they made a world of difference. Install was fairly easy after reading a couple of threads on here.
Bought them from Crutchfield and they came with the speaker adapters that had to be slightly modified to work with the new speakers.

I did this a couple weeks ago as well in my 2011 Supercrew. These things sound a lot better than the paper coned factory speakers. Door panels will have to be removed, you can find videos on youtube on how to do that. Be sure to tie-wrap the "crossover dongle" that comes with the Kappas to the wiring harness inside the doors so the window glass clears them when they go down and the "dongles" don't bop around inside the door.

Got my Kappas on ebay for $154 for 4 speakers brand new. Best price I could find a couple weeks ago. Well worth it.

I replaced my stock Ford paper cones with Polk db571s. Impressive improvement in the sound. BUT ...

Due to the location low on the door, a lot of the treble tends to get blocked by your legs. If your going to upgrade, I'd strongly suggest getting separate tweeters. (I'm going to get eventually get a pair of Polk db series tweeters and mount them somewhere higher up on the door.)

I just installed our new infinity speakers, Boston Acoustic amp, and JL audio sub with the intention of keeping the factory HU. Sounds great. But, I can't take the factory HU. I ordered the Poineer P4300DVD to install as its replacement. Looking forward to dumping the Ford HU.
